Not just bad weather...

Friday, October 12, 2007. Nobel prizes and lazy journalism. It's time for me to write another post. These days - being heavily pregnant and on maternity leave - I am more likely to complain to media regulator Ofcom (which I have done! About misleading and sensationalist TV programmes such as Channel 4's "Bringing up Baby" than think about climate change science. But what happened yesterday and today is too significant to be ignored. So, well done on the Norwegians for awarding the Nobel peace prize.

Not just bad weather...: Are carbon offsets a good idea or a con?

http://www.climatenews.blogspot.com/2007/06/are-carbon-offsets-good-idea-or-con.html

Monday, June 18, 2007. Are carbon offsets a good idea or a con? There’s been a lot of media coverage about offsets recently. A growing number of institutions, individuals and businesses are claiming that all or parts of their activities are being made "carbon neutral" through the purchase of carbon offsets. Is this true or is it a con? The UK’s Guardian has published this weekend an excellent investigation. What is a carbon offset? Are offsets related to the Kyoto Protocol? Partly, but not entirely. ...

Not just bad weather...: December 2006

http://www.climatenews.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Renewable energy experts considered this to be very problematic and that - if approved - it would undermine the current growth of renewable electricity and heat technologies in the EU. Was pl...

Writing about writing about science. sort of. Talk on climate change yesterday. I went to hear Dirk Messner, the head ofthe German Development Institute, yesterday at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. That guy can talk. Check it out on youtube. 2) The speed of human development at the moment truely is breathtaking. Yes, we knew that – still, check out the graph on page two of this paper.
