I agree wholly with you regarding the point of controlled vs uncontrolled communication (: I guess the job of a PR practitioner is really not an easy job and I'm glad that you understood the complications. Business is certainly not an easy subject to grasp, and CSR sounds really related to ethics! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete p...

CMNS 1290 - Cherell's: A typical PR program

http://www.cmns1290cherell.blogspot.com/2009/03/typical-pr-program.html

Thursday, March 12, 2009. A typical PR program. This week's readings gives a over view of how a public relations program works. It is very specific and detailed in showing the different methods and ways a PR program can be decided upon, and how it can be carried out. Overall, this readings has helped me understand PR programs much better, because it is very thorough and detailed. This will certainly aid in my planning for the final project for this module, and also in my career in future.

CMNS 1290 Intro to PR: February 2009

http://cmns1290qcaj.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

CMNS 1290 Intro to PR. Thursday, February 26, 2009. Is research an opportunity or a cost? I think two key points to my learning for this week’s readings are. 1 Research will help practitioners to define attitudes and lead to better strategy. Research is the key to any successful public relations, communication and/or marketing efforts, not just in the business world, but also in the non-profit organisations and government sectors. 2 Failure of a project is constituted to the paucity of evaluation. Accord...

CMNS 1290 Intro to PR. Thursday, January 29, 2009. The relationship between the media and public relations - love or hate? I think two key points to my learning for this week’s readings are the relationship between the media and public relations and targeting your audience with the best media vehicle. L Grunig (1992) defines organizations as a group of two or more individuals who organize in order to influence another public through action that may include education, compromise, persuasion, pressure tact...

CMNS 1290 Intro to PR. Monday, March 16, 2009. Do Third Sector organisations still need this (risk, issues, crisis and recovery) management? I think two key points to my learning for this week’s readings are. Unlike businesses that need this intangible asset goodwill for emergency cases especially when the company’s reputation is at stake. Is there then still a need for crisis management and the like for third sector? Or do they just believe wholeheartedly without a doubt that they are clean with their d...

Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Chapter 17 - Perils of defamation. 1 You are a newspaper. Editor. One of your reporters has made and honest mistake that defamed someone. You publish an apology. The person defamed is not satisfied. And want you to print a full-page feature story promoting her business or she will sue. What will you do? If the women threatens to sue, I would go to court, but after the apology had been published, I don't think she would have a very strong case anyway. Suits against the media?

Friday, October 16, 2009. Thursday, October 15, 2009. This weeks readings covered the subjects of research, evaluation and sponsorship. While there are many different ways with which to conduct research it is always important to conduct some form of it. Research helps to define the problem, without which there is no way to determine the best course of action. Neither can any measure be established for defining success. Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Sunday, October 18, 2009. Ethics, Ethics, Ethics. Personal ethical boundaries present a major dilemma within the PR industry. There is an intrinsic difference between the ethical interests of people (employees) and the organisations they represent. At a basic level a business operates to serve the interests of its stakeholders, if the interests of these stakeholders are compromised by an ethical dilemma which set of guidelines are followed? Thursday, October 15, 2009. RISK CRISIS AND ISSUES. I have always wondered why organisations mostly use spokespersons, esspecially in time of crisis and this article answered that for me. Keep CEO's as a resever for either special announcements or corrections. This really stood out to me as a great tactic as if you bring them out first thing in a crisis and things continue to go wrong from there, then there is no one else higher up to reassure people. Monday, October 12, 2009. Chapter 11 - Risks Crisis and issues run through what and how these symptoms affect the PR practitioner. They encompass natural, political and societal environments. Is defined as "the possibility of harm or damage. Risk is about chance. The outcome is unknown" ( Nicholls 298-299). Most risk is associated negatively, however some risk comes with rewards - such as lottery tickets etc. Is defined as having a problematic situation. 2, The third sector refers to non government organ...

Sunday, September 23, 2007. Reserach and Evaluation in Public Relations. Before reading this chapter I understood that it is important to conduct research and practice evaluating this research in order to execute a successful public relations campaign. What I had not previously considered was the specific ways of going about acquiring information and the importance of selective choice of methodology dependent on the amount of information required and budget restrictions. Who is the public? Strategy, Plan...

Thursday, October 15, 2009. Week 10: Risk, Crisis, Issues and the Third Sector. This week’s reading revolved around management of risk, risk prevention and crisis management. Basically the message was that, where PR is concerned, prevention is most certainly better than cure. Apologies for that pathetic attempt at a joke.
