Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. John Muir. Monday, November 9, 2015. I’ll be honest – I wasn’t actually that interested in running a 100 miler. I like the idea of running all day (and maybe part. Chollas - or jumping cacti - are the bright green, fuzzy looking plants to the left. I was in bed at 8pm, but it was another hour or so until I finally fell asleep. I slept fitfully until about 2:45am, then got ...

Lucky 66.6 (or 67.8) on the PCT. September 27, 2016. The following is a photo essay from last weekend’s adventure on the Pacific Crest Trail. Less than two weeks earlier, and only joined us for the first part. Stacie and I continued on to witness a beautiful sunrise on the ridgeline between Mt. Lincoln and Anderson Peak. Stacie running towards Anderson Peak, with views of the ridge we would be on in about 20 miles in the distance. Best not to think too far ahead though. Fall colors in Tahoe on the PCT/TRT.

Racing Through My Life. Bishop High Sierra 100k 2014. Next morning at 4:00 am, Jeff and I were up slugging down the coffee. Rice and eggs were my pre-race meal, and by 5:00 am we were on our way to the race start. The day dawned clear, beautiful, and looking to be warm. Seeing Sada, we warmed up together, and after a brief course review from RD Tim Stahler, we were off. Sada and me at the start line. Racing Through My Life. Sean O’Brien 50 2014. I’m sure one of the first thoughts anyone has that follows my racing is “why is she racing 3 weeks after Bandera? 8221; Three fold answer – 1) My brother lives 25 minutes from the start line and gives me the impetus for a visit 2) It’s part of Montrail Ultra Cup series and I wanted to score some points, and 3) I love supporting Keira Henninger’s events – she puts on a great party! Racing Through My Life. Sean O’Brien 100k. I have put this off long enough. Fifty miles of Sean O’Brien last year did me and my knees in pretty well, and adding 12 miles and one more huge climb this year didn’t have me feeling any better. Last Year’s Finishing Knees. Photo by Greg Lanctot. It was, however, fun to come on down to SoCal and join the locals and RD Keira Henninger for a beautiful day in Santa Monica mountains. Since this was a Montrail Ultra Cup. Racing Through My Life. The weeks following said debacle and subsequent advice, I practiced eating 200-300 calories per hour on my long runs. It worked. Duh. I felt like an old dog who forgot the tricks. But with renewed commitment, I was ready to tackle race day with a plan and a pack full of gels. Death by a 1000 paper cuts. 8221; – Steve Itano. Downhill, I was letting gravity pull me down, and the many rollers in the first few miles were already making an impact on my quads. Yuck! Meredith Terranova w...
