首都师范大学信息工程学院作为我国较早获批的智能科学与技术专业的院校之一，2003年3月，在招生计划中设立 智能信息工程 专业方向，并同时成立 智能信息工程系 ，同年9月开始了第一批专业人才的培养。 2004年，为和国内智能科学技术本科教育一致， 智能信息工程 专业方向更名为 智能科学与技术 专业方向，并获教育部批准备案。 目前本专业已经构建了 智能机器人开放实验室 、 虚拟现实实验室 及 智能信息处理实验室 三大平台，基于智能科学与技术专业特色，为专业课程教学活动、学生科研实践活动以及教师科研课题提供了良好的教学和科研实践环境。 除此之外，本专业还拥有 智能虚拟交互与认知计算 、 自然语言处理 、 数据挖掘与知识发现 等多个科研学术团队，并在相关研究领域取得了一系列研究成果，以科研促教学，为培养高质量的学生提供了必要的保障。
