Coldwetwater: Hebridean Sharker, part 3

http://coldwetwater.blogspot.com/2014/06/hebridean-sharker-part-3.html

The Big Paddle Maps. Monday, 23 June 2014. Hebridean Sharker, part 3. Having drawn a blank on the shark hunting so far, a change of plan was needed. After sitting out some horrible weather with Mrs and Miss CWW, I travelled the long road to Calgary Bay on Mull. My destination was the island of Coll, said to be a hotspot for basking sharks. A It was quite rough. B I nearly missed Coll. As it was, I landed up on a pleasant spot to camp at the northern tip of the island, with a fine view to Rhum. The follow...

Coldwetwater: Hebridean Sharker, part 2

http://coldwetwater.blogspot.com/2014/06/hebridean-sharker-part-2.html

The Big Paddle Maps. Thursday, 19 June 2014. Hebridean Sharker, part 2. With no sharks so far, my reading of "Hebridean Sharker" suggested that the best plan might be to move south. Before doing so, I had a gentle day exploring the collection of small islands north of Great Bernera. I launched from Bolsta Beach. I liked Bolsta Beach so much that I later bought a painting. There is a curious object in the water here. I later found out it was a Time and Tide Bell. Finally I could go no further. Harris is a...

Coldwetwater: Hebridean Sharker, part 1

http://coldwetwater.blogspot.com/2014/06/hebridean-sharker-part-1.html

The Big Paddle Maps. Wednesday, 18 June 2014. Hebridean Sharker, part 1. An unsettled forecast and big tides put paid to any ideas about a big tour, so I set off to the Isle of Lewis with this book to read. It's quite a short book, more about harpooning basking sharks than about Tex Geddes himself, which is a shame. It has a lot of interest for a sea kayaker, and some hair raising stories of stormy seas. It's also a good place for day touring, and I had a bike for shuttles. Uig sands are enormous, when t...

Coldwetwater: Hebridean Sharker, the final chapter

http://coldwetwater.blogspot.com/2014/10/hebridean-sharker-final-chapter.html

The Big Paddle Maps. Sunday, 12 October 2014. Hebridean Sharker, the final chapter. The hunt resumed, past steep mountains. Finally, the quarry was sighted. A good end to the year's touring. 11 January 2015 at 13:02. A fantastic trip Iain and amazing photos as normal. Been too long since I looked at your blog. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Saturday, 20 April 2013. There were big rafts of fulmars just offshore. These ones were forming ever-changing patterns as they were carried on the swells. It was sunny, but extremely windy on top of the cliffs, and we couldn't sit at our favourite 'viewing spot' as it wouldn't have been safe. Instead we moved further along the coast and found some shelter behind some gorse, where we could both enjoy the coconut smell of the gorse, and the clear views along the coast towards Pennan and Fraserburgh.

Saturday, 13 October 2012. Back in the summer holidays (which feels like a loooong time ago now) we visited Fowlsheugh, hoping to see puffins. There were some puffins, though you don't get nearly as close to them as you do some other places I've been. There was plenty to see though - other birds and wildlife and great scenery too. A lovely bird hide. Catterline lighthouse.. Well worth another visit. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A small selection of my photography for sale. Life on a Small Island.

Saturday, 23 June 2012. I've been to the Bullers o Buchan before, but not in springtime. The wild flowers were beautiful. A great bank of red campion and primroses. The views were stunning too, from the Bullers o' Buchan itself. Right up the coast towards Peterhead. Plenty of bird life too. A short walk along the coast you can see Slains Castle in one direction. And the Buchan Ness lighthouse in the other. I must go back again soon and see the bird life as there should be some chicks hatched by now.

Friday, 31 August 2012. Peace, perfect peace. Anyway, we obtained more tickets for the next night, and headed off. Views of the site from Pennan. First close up view. The views from the site itself were spectacular - from Hell's Lum along to Troup Head in one direction, and Pennan in the other. Afterwards we went down to Cullykhan Bay - the campers around their fire had a great view too. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A small selection of my photography for sale. Peace, perfect peace. Thursday, 18 July 2013. Having lived in Orkney for so long, a trip "sooth" still means anywhere south of where I live. So my trip to Arran last week was a trip sooth. I stopped off at a couple of other places to break the journey, and - as usual - got busy with the camera. Redpoll - the first one I've ever seen. I also came across a very pretty roundabout. Monday, 15 July 2013. Some hielan coos, and a tystie. A field of Hielan Coos at Brodick Castle. Sunday, 14 July 2013. Saturday, 13 July 2013. I went a...

Thursday, 3 January 2013. We had a great sea kayaking trip on Loch Leven with Paddle Lochaber back in September. A great introduction to sea kayaking for Simon. I really liked the location of this house. We really couldn't have asked for more perfect conditions. All good. Wednesday, 2 January 2013. Late summer at Troup Head. Usually I go to Troup for the gannets, but on this trip the insects were equally fascinating. I've never seen so many burnet moths in one place before! Tuesday, 1 January 2013. Lorni...

Friday, 30 March 2012. I'm a bit reknowned for forgetting my Mum and Dad's anniversary until it's too late to send a card in time for it to actually get there on time (it seems to take the Royal Mail a minimum of 2 days to deliver mail to them, even if it's first class.). Anyway, I've decided to make up for it this year. A card - an online message (Hi Mum and Dad, Happy Anniversary! And a tune (composed by the talented Steven Spence in Unst. Hope you enjoy it, Mum and Dad. Tuesday, 27 March 2012. The dra...

Thursday, 10 May 2012. Last weekend we had the closest full moon to Earth of 2012. I was lucky enough to be in Arran for the weekend, and the weather was clear, so I had the chance to fully appreciate the moon. I've missed seeing the moon shining over the water since I moved to Inverurie, and the sun shining over the water too, so it was a real treat to catch this. Ailsa Craig appeared to be floating. A great start to a great weekend. Wednesday, 9 May 2012. And the Northlink ferry. I wonder how long ...

Saturday, 29 June 2013. We've been to Aberdeen Harbour to see the dolphins a few times now. As well as viewing the harbour from Torry . It's interesting to walk the end of the harbour near Fittie where the marine operations centre is. The new Marine Operations Centre was opened in 2006. There they manage over 17,000 vessel arrivals and departures each year - so it's a busy place! The pilots often escort boats in and out. Some bonnie sunsets around the harbour. Friday, 28 June 2013. A walk round Fittie.

The Big Paddle Maps. Thursday, 14 December 2017. Have drone, will paddle. Glen Lyon, the movie. Saturday, 4 November 2017. I've long had a hankering after building a boat, but I'm not a terribly handy sort of person, and the pictures of projects that I had seen all seemed to involve lots of sharp implements and many many clamps. Then I came across the website of Orca Adventures. Which is Steve and Dan from near Penrith. First cut up wood. Tie it all together. Tape and epoxy the joins. A coat of varnish.

Freitag, 6. Februar 2015. Miu Miu Lace Clutch in nude.
