Constantly doubting whether or not I made the right decision in turning down a promotion to stay in Malawi to see my project through to the end,. Concerned that funding for my position beyond the end of the year was uncertain,. Feeling generally stuck and unsure of what to do next. B, photo-bombing a perfectly nice picture at my 30th bday. Lilongwe From Home: August 2012
http://lilongwe-from-home.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
August 2, 2012. Hi there, remember me? Life's been busy these past few months; the blog was the first to get neglected.sorry. So - after 21 months of life in Malawi sans TV, we finally bit the bullet and invested in cable for one reason and one reason only: THE OLYMPICS! I absolutely adore the Olympics; there's just something magical. Victory, defeat, heartbreak, joy, sweat, tears.seriously, what's not to like? Some other things that are worth mentioning:. There also aren't any fluff pieces during Olympi...

Lilongwe From Home: May 2012
http://lilongwe-from-home.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
May 24, 2012. Sometimes rumors are truth. We heard they were going to introduce a 1000MK note (at the time it would have been $6 but after devaluation it is only worth $4). Then we heard it was going to have Bingu's face on it. Last week we heard they would unveil the new bills this week and we'd have one year to spend our old ones before they stopped being accepted. Source - Reserve Bank of Malawi. Now I'm trying to scrounge together old bills in each denomination - you know, as a collector's item :).

Lilongwe From Home: What can you do with green lemons.....
http://lilongwe-from-home.blogspot.com/2011/03/what-can-do-with-green-lemons.html
March 31, 2011. What can you do with green lemons. Bake, of course! Or cook, for that matter! I am pretty sure we've used lemons in everything we've made since the day that glorious lemon tree was discovered in our yard. Shrimp? I spy one yellow lemon.but most of them stay green (even when they're ripe! Well I think we all. Know the answer to that question. Alas, my impatience got the best of me and I decided to bake using what was left of my 'baking margarine' and about 4.5 of MY. What's This Blog About?

September 12, 2012. The recent fuel increase got me thinking. Since I arrived in 2010, the cost of fuel has steadily increased. However, due to an adjusted (and now floating) exchange rate, I am currently paying approximately the same for fuel NOW (in dollars), as I was when I arrived in October 2010. Just interesting.that's all. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Map Source: http:/ www.ip.wsu.edu. What's This Blog About? Travel makes you a happier person – FACT. MM] All The Lives We Could Live. Lilongwe From Home: February 2013
http://lilongwe-from-home.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
February 4, 2013. Ah, the lake. Oh how I've missed you! This weekend a group of us headed to Nkhotakota for a quick overnight jaunt to the lake. It has been months since we'd been to the lake so it was a nice get away. Destination - Fish Eagle Bay. We all set up our towels in between the tire tracks (not on purpose.perhaps sub-consciously? B breaking it down for some of the locals (who found it hysterical that the mzungu would dance with them). In honor of Superbowl Sunday. We love having visitors! After...

Lilongwe From Home: metal mouth
http://lilongwe-from-home.blogspot.com/2012/09/metal-mouth.html
September 27, 2012. A few weeks ago there was a Water Board strike. We were given ample notice (4 days) that the Water Employees Trade Union of Malawi planned to strike unless their salaries were increased. This gave all of us plenty of time to stock up on water in every type of. Receptacle we had (last year's strike lasted 3 days - which may not seem like a lot, but i'd much rather be without electricity than water, purely from a sanitation point of view! We're almost certain it was giardia and, for onc...

Lilongwe From Home: A little culture in Lilongwe...
http://lilongwe-from-home.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-little-culture-in-lilongwe.html
January 28, 2013. A little culture in Lilongwe. This past weekend was a weekend of culture! Friday night one of my friends cooked us a delicious and authentic Indian meal. I think it was likely a combination of the amazing food and a little bit of whisky that put us into food coma for the rest of the night. Homemade Indian food (at my old house! On Saturday, one of B's colleagues, fulfilled a promise to make homemade Ethiopian food, complete with fresh injera. We drank athol brose. B with.the haggis.
