Wednesday, June 29, 2011. I have weighed myself after long runs and bike rides and it is not unusual for me to sweat out about 4-6 pounds. I have been hydrating pretty regularly with water and. I am trying to run about 20-30 miles a week, ride about 70-100 miles a week and swim about 6-8 kilometers a week. I will ramp those distances up to peak for my big race which will be the Austin Triathlon. On Labor day. I am really looking forward to that race. It should be a lot of fun. Paula riding the Veloway.

Sunday, March 27, 2011. Lactate Threshold and VO2 max as I understand it. I recently scheduled a visit to the Fitness Institute of Texas. When you exercise, in this instance run, your muscles produce lactic acid as a result of glycolysis. With these numbers I am now able to tailor my training to produce better results at my races. 168 % body fat. VO2 max 45 (mL/kg/min). LT occurs at HR of 165. LT also occurs at 87.5% of VO2 max. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Ironman Austin 70.3 Race Recap. I did it. I trained for 10 plus months and got myself, barely, to the start of the race. I had a great time and finished in 5:48 which was 12 minutes faster than my goal. Here is how it all went down. The event staff let us in very quickly to drop bags and I convinced someone to let me air up my tires. Whew! I was in. Now I could calm down and try to mentally prepare for the race. As I hadn’t a clue as to how my body would respond, I decided I would just go down to The Veloway to do some loops. (Yeah, hoping on the trainer would have been easier, but I have spent enough time in front of my TV lately.) I was actually very surprised how I felt on the bike! Tuesday, May 3, 2011. This past weekend I rode a pretty hard 40 miles. It felt great to really push hard and try to keep up with Glenda and Nails. Well, they dropped me, but were kind enough to come back for me. And now, a couple of days later, I have what seems to be another flare up of pericarditis. So, can I try to slowly build up a solid base in the swim and bike and hope that doesn’t cause any more problems? Will that even keep the flare ups from happening? Do I go back to training?

It really is a lot of fun getting to race in downtown Austin. The quick low down on it was that it was a great race for me with a few hiccups. She did a great job and was a great little Hawkeye. Here Bella is cheering on the Hawks in her Iowa gear! Bella and I watching the game on my birthday. The Hawkeyes pulled off a 4th quarter win!
