Life on the C-bus: CD Review: The Damnits “Songs For Sugarpants”
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2008/02/cd-review-damnits-songs-for-sugarpants.html
Saturday, February 2, 2008. CD Review: The Damnits “Songs For Sugarpants”. Officially release their CD Songs For Sugarpants. Tonight at CBR’s. Rumor has it that lead singer/guitarist Bob jokingly introduced his then-band at a near-empty venue as Dick Darnit and the Damnits. The name stuck around and was shortened to just The Damnits. That was well over a decade-and-a-half ago and they’re still here and still putting out quality work. Here’s the song-by-song rundown:. The Damnits do Bri-pop. And actua...

Life on the C-bus: Black Spyral Dancer
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2008/02/black-spyral-dancer.html
Friday, February 8, 2008. With the name Black Spyral Dancer. Images of a grim Cirque du Soleil rush into your mind, and though it’s not a good comparison, the analogy does imply a great show - and BSD delivers with a healthy mix of metal, rock, poetry and performance. 8220;The band has had members come and go,” Maj says, “But I consider the band BSD once Hutch entered the group.”. Hutch agrees: “It’s become a more focused, whole entity. In the beginning, there was a lot going on simultane...Once getting ...

Life on the C-bus: EP Review: Nuclear Children
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2007/11/by-dave-schaefer-nuclear-children.html
Sunday, November 25, 2007. EP Review: Nuclear Children. The Nuclear Children released their EP Wear Black and Come When We Call. This past September (I know, I know, another late review.). Jason Matthew, Matthew Gene, Rory Daniel, Nikolei Mario make up the band with Jason taking the lead on mic and lyrics. And for the most part, the EP delivers. Here’s a track-by-track rundown. As much as it sounds Butthole Surfer-ish, this track is fairly standard. Both words and music lack what the other songs on t...

Life on the C-bus: CD Review: Bullet Jones
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2007/10/cd-review-bullet-jones.html
Saturday, October 27, 2007. CD Review: Bullet Jones. This review is long overdue. Released this past summer, the so-called “Demo” EP by local band Bullet Jones. Though there are no bad songs on Bullet Jones’ EP, standout tracks are “Ugly Side,” “Song #4,” and the anthemic “Ballad of Bullet Jones.” Each show a different side of the band, allowing the listener to piece together the success that’s in the future for Bullet Jones. 11/18 @ B0MA (Bar of Modern Art). 11/30 @ Ravari Room. Love the "buses" thing.

Life on the C-bus: EP Review: Yummy Fight's "Round One"
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2008/01/ep-review-yummy-fights-round-one.html
Sunday, January 27, 2008. EP Review: Yummy Fight's "Round One". 8217;s EP Round One. The songwriting is surprisingly even, considering the different genres represented, and never do you lose sight that this is the same band, regardless of the displayed musical diversity. But above all, it’s fun. Although at times if you listen hard enough you’ll find some lyrical depth, Round One. Here’s the song-by-song rundown:. Need a Lotta Love. The most pop of any of the songs on the EP, “Radio” has a di...8217;s fo...

Life on the C-bus: CD Review: Philo's "Self Destruction In Dark"
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2007/12/cd-review-philos-self-destruction-in.html
Sunday, December 9, 2007. CD Review: Philo's "Self Destruction In Dark". Philo had what was essentially a debut performance on December 1 at their CD release event at a packed Skully’s. Rarely does a local band that has barely even graced a stage together garner such anticipation, but such is Philo. I was able to pick up a copy of “Self Destructive In Dark (Part 1)” at the show and I found it to be highly listenable. Possibly the best song, the opening guitar riff instantly grabs you and hooks you back i...

Life on the C-bus: CD Review: Downplay's "A Day Without Gravity"
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2007/12/cd-review-downplays-day-without-gravity.html
Thursday, December 13, 2007. CD Review: Downplay's "A Day Without Gravity". 8220;We started to build a name for ourselves as the crazy party band that could put on shows as long as six straight hours,” says Downplay. Lead singer Dustin Bates of their early days at Ohio University where the band began with the current member line-up. “But we still weren't a full blown original band in my opinion.”. That happened when the band released their first full-length CD Saturday. A Day Without Gravity. 8220;Not th...

Life on the C-bus: EP Review: The Judas Cow
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2007/11/ep-review-judas-cow.html
Wednesday, November 28, 2007. EP Review: The Judas Cow. With two former members of Columbus’s now-defunct Silo the Huskie, The Judas Cow. 8217;s short history is already entrenched in the city’s local scene. The garage Cowtown sound is embodied in the likes of Watershed, Twin Cam and Earwig - and The Judas Cow fits comfortably in that crowd. But at the same time they’re able to distinguish themselves with their guy-next-door vocals, depth of lyrics and clever but straightforward hooks. The Judas Cow is:.

Life on the C-bus: CD Review: Jason Quicksall's "My Wiser Side"
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2007/12/cd-review-jason-quicksalls-my-wiser.html
Wednesday, December 26, 2007. CD Review: Jason Quicksall's "My Wiser Side". 8217;s newest release My Wiser Side. Captures you almost instantly in the first track and holds on to you throughout. Much of this is the quality of songwriting that he exhibits as well as the smooth instrumental arrangement. The CD could easily be a droll set of acoustic folkiness, but instead he lifts it to a very listenable, surprisingly honest set of songs. And those that buy My Wiser Side. Are the benefactors of that unfoldi...

Life on the C-bus: CD Review: VHS or Beta's "Bring on the Comets"
http://lifeonthec-bus.blogspot.com/2007/08/cd-review-vhs-or-betas-bring-on-comets.html
Sunday, August 26, 2007. CD Review: VHS or Beta's "Bring on the Comets". Louisville's VHS or Beta. Releases their latest CD Bring on the Comets. On Tuesday, August 28th. I had the good fortune to snag a pre-release of the disc and get an early listen. Much like the band's first full-length Night on Fire. Deviated from their self-released EP Le Funk. Their latest offering is considerably different from either of the previous two. And Night on Fire. First, the single "Can't Believe a Single Word." A sn...
