What do midwives do? Midwives provide primary care to women throughout their low risk pregnancy, labour and birth, and provide care to both mother and baby during the first six weeks following the birth. What kind of training do midwives have? Can I have a midwife and a doctor? What kind of diagnostic tests can a midwife order? We have had a number of clients request appointments in the evenings and on weekends. We are aware that it is difficult to attend appointments during the workday, however due to the long and unpredictable hours involved in attending deliveries, midwives cannot also do prenatal appointments outside of planned clinic hours. It is your right under Ontario law to take time off from work to attend prenatal appointments. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
