My #CMAD (Or the best 24 hours of my life). February 2, 2015. I got asked to join Sherrie and Brew in Milwaukee, at Attention Era Studios to help them host all 24 panels in a row. Now I had hosted a few panels, here and there, but 24 straight hours? I am proud as hell to be a community manager. #CMAD confirmed this and I am not going anywhere. Chronicles of a Community Manager. January 21, 2015. I wanted to hone in on my new skill, so I hung up my PM hat and went to a digital marketing agency, and did just that. I touched verticals from pest control to gold bullion trading, but I fell in love with the food industry. In 2012, I was invited to apply for a Social Media position at Brinker International’s Maggiano’s Little Italy, and I’ve been here ever since! Social Media Marketing Coordinator. Have You Considered a Community Management Service? January 20, 2015. In the early days of brand presence on social media, the task of creating content, engaging the community and managing it often fell to current employees. They were expected to add this task to their present workload. After all, they really only had to keep an eye on the pages and make sure they promoted the brand. That didn’t take much of their time. Maybe half an hour a day. Right? Why is community moderation and monitoring effective?

I Wanted To Be A Community Manager When I Grew Up. January 24, 2015. I wanted to be a community manager when I grew up. How many of us say that? Nah, not me either. Actually I wanted to be a nun or a teacher, until I knew that I was to be a missionary. And that’s what I pursued, trained four years for and did in Mexico for 15 years. That was my identity for years until my husband and I and our children returned to the United States 16 years ago. I ended up being the stabilizer and peacemaker in many ways.

Money, Power & Respect: Career Advancement in Community Management. Posted by Patrick on July 23rd, 2015 in Community Careers. Money, Power and Respect. The 1998 debut from The Lox, is a great album. I’ve been listening to “Let’s Start Rap Over” a lot lately. I love that record. When you are pushing upward, remember three words: money, power and respect. When I urge community professionals not to sell themselves short. This is especially helpful if you are paid average or below average money. Hopefully, ...

Why Do Community Professionals Burnout? Posted by Patrick on March 28th, 2016 in Community Careers. CC BY-ND 2.0. Why do so many online community professionals choose to leave the profession behind? Is there something about the role that makes burnout more common? An acquaintance of mine was pondering this recently. He wasn’t talking about people who are leaving for greener pastures – he was talking about those who have had enough. Here’s what I told him. CC BY-ND 2.0. With money, can come hype. Some...

Unblocking a Link From Being Posted in Our Community – After 12 Years. Posted by Patrick on August 6th, 2015 in Managing the Community. CC BY 2.0. A few months ago, there was a conversation on one of my communities where members were talking about other forums that they participate in. This is a natural thing, and it crops up every so often. Rather than being afraid that members will leave for these other communities, I embrace these types of discussions. A Site Blocked Long Ago. Back to the thread about...
