http://pud.com/post/65374847162/how-i-deal-with-users-who-steal
How I deal with users who steal. I built an online service called DistroKid. That makes it easy for musicians to get their music into iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Google Play. It costs $19.99/yr for musicians to use, or is free. If you refer 5 new users. The referral system works well, and is responsible for about 30% of daily new users. Some users fake it though. They “refer” 5 people by making 5 bogus DistroKid accounts using the referral link we give them. But I was recently inspired by a story I saw ...

http://pud.com/post/10103947044/fucking-sue-me
It was 1998 and the dot-com boom was in full effect. I was making websites as a 22 year old freelance programmer in NYC. I charged my first client $1,400. My second client paid $5,400. The next paid $24,000. I remember the exact amounts – they were the largest checks I’d seen up til that point. Annoyed by my lawyering, the client eventually gave up and hired someone else. This time, instead of sending it to my lawyer, I sent it to my Dad – a lifelong entrepreneur. Rdquo; and so on. Ldquo; But what if some...

http://pud.com/post/70512801985/rip-al-goldstein
Back in 2000, I was in NYC small claims court because a neighbor sued me for playing the drums too loudly. Sitting next to me in the courtroom was Al Goldstein, famously-outspoken NYC pornographer. He was there to sue airlines, something over frequent flyer miles he felt he was owed. Al had a TV show on NYC public access (people actually watch that in NYC) ca. Al invited me to be interviewed on his TV show. I was psyched. A few days later I was in his studio, cameras rolling. Al, we’ll miss you.

Open letter to Robb McDaniels, Founder and CEO of InGrooves. Dear Mr. McDaniels,. This is in response to an article you wrote on HypeBot ( here. Entitled, “5 musings from a digital music exec who’s been doing this a long time and isn’t even that old.”. How I increased conversion on my checkout form by 60%. I run a service called DistroKid. That costs $19.99/yr. Musicians use it to get their music into iTunes, Spotify, and other stores. I noticed that 75% of users were dropping out at the credit card form. A 25% conversion rate seemed okay to me, so I didn’t give it much thought for a year. Then I randomly came across an article. My average conversion rate went from 25% to 40%. That’s a 60% improvement*. Gray background around sensitive fields. A field ...
