Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Practical usage of "Tangible Functional Programming". Just watched the Google Talk about " Tangible Functional Programming". Got the idea of using it in practice by wrapping up existing applications and offering them inside the framework. For example a "transformation" around say, Firefox, that takes as input a string and represents as output the webpage (maybe of primitive type image) . An example application would be: input text box "www.google.com/search?

Explorations in evolving the understanding, living, and teaching of Nonviolent Communication. January 13th, 2011. Embracing criticism, loving myself. I’ve been exploring an idea for the past few years that I’d like to share here. The idea is that I never react to others’ criticisms, only to my own (self-criticism). When someone says something that resonates with my self-critic, that self-critic is activated (resonance). It’s due to that resonance that I classify another’s words [.].

Blog : Brent - [String]. How to print things. In an attempt to solidify and extend my knowledge of category theory, I have been working my way through the excellent series of category theory lectures posted on Youtube. Edsko de Vries used to have a listing of the videos, but it is no longer available. After wresting a copy from a Google cache, I began working my way through the videos, but soon discovered that Edsko’s list was organized by subject,. Are of course welcome! I have a goal. Terminal and init...

13 Mar 2010 11:30 am. I think I see a pattern: More powerful programming languages rely less heavily on naming. It is easier to use names sparingly in certain types of languages, and that is one advantage indicated by the metaphor “power.”. Naming, itself, is a powerful part of language, whether “programming” or “natural”. Naming aids abstraction. Names tell. We rely on names so that our minds can focus on a few, particular relationships. It’s the main mechanism of information hiding. The code that resul...

Song List (to come). Below are some pieces I have done over the years. I use a lot of smudging and eraser strokes to create the effects in the pencil pieces. These techniques are pretty much self taught, and I'm looking forward to learning a lot more when I return to school starting this fall. The fourth piece is a collaboration done with my sweetheart,. In 2004. We used his graphics language,. I have also created a gallery of some of Conal's artwork, which you can see. Guy in a Sweater.
