Cook Eat Dance Love: Date Nut Bread

http://cookeatdancelove.blogspot.com/2013/04/date-nut-bread.html

Sunday, April 14, 2013. To get right to it:. 2 c chopped, pitted dates. 1 t baking soda. 2 c boiling water. 2-6 eggs (depending on how rich a bread you want. I use 2-3). 1 c brown sugar (note: this is a decrease from the recipe in the book). 1/2 c soft (not melted) butter. 1 c nuts (I use pecans when I'm giving this for gifts but I like walnuts, too). In a bowl, combine dates, soda, salt; pour boiling water over all, stir, and set aside to cool. Cook, eat, dance, love! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Cook Eat Dance Love: Buttermilk Bread

http://cookeatdancelove.blogspot.com/2013/04/buttermilk-bread.html

Monday, April 22, 2013. My own bread: rolls, buns, loaves, pita, and all the sweet yeast breads like donuts and coffeecakes, and every non-yeast bread you can think of as well. Although I don't bake as often as I did during that ten-year period, I so dislike paying too much money for too-often poor-quality store-bought bread that I tend to make my own bread frequently. Adapted from A World Of Breads. 2 1/2 t. salt. 1/2 c warm water. 1/2 t baking soda. Remove from pans, cool on racks until you can't stand...

Cook Eat Dance Love: Memorial Day Salad Trio

http://cookeatdancelove.blogspot.com/2013/05/memorial-day-salad-trio.html

Sunday, May 26, 2013. Memorial Day Salad Trio. I decided to celebrate Memorial Day with a salad trio. Apples, sliced thin and chopped. Celery, sliced thin on the diagonal. Toss prepared ingredients with dressing. A light, slightly tart version of the classic Waldorf salad. I may try this with fresh fennel, thinly sliced, and also (but not with the fennel) with finely chopped fresh ginger. KUMATO TOMATOES and GOAT CHEESE. If you haven't tried Kumato tomatoes, I highly recommend them. They're amazingly ful...

http://dontbestingywiththejalapenos.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 17, 2009. One of my favorite poets. I CRIED over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts. The field of cornflower yellow is a scarf at the neck of the copper sunburned woman,. The mother of the year, the taker of seeds. The northwest wind comes and the yellow is torn full of holes,. New beautiful things come in the first spit of snow on the northwest wind,. And the old things go, not one lasts. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cook eat dance love. If a man cou...

http://dontbestingywiththejalapenos.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 21, 2008. Birds of a feather. Every year I notice birds as they begin to flock in preparation for migration; usually the first I notice is around mid-July when the grackles and other blackbirds begin flocking. It doesn't mean they're leaving yet (as anyone with a bird feeder can testify! It's just barely summer! Don't make me think about fall! Along with the flocking birds, I've noticed the late summer wildflowers: ragweed, ironweed, asters, goldenrod. the beginnings of color in the ...

Sunday, November 9, 2008. Way back in March I posted photos from Topaz Mountain (check them out. And promised photos from Yellowstone soon. Well, "soon" has come and gone, but since I was there in the fall and it's fall again, now seems an appropriate time to post them. Anyway, it's a fascinating and beautiful place. Fall is a great time to visit; tourist numbers are way down, the temps are cool and pleasant, the elks are bugling, and the colors are incredible. I hope to return often. Links to this post.

Tuesday, January 20, 2009. How nice to be able to say those words, and feel that the person they are directed at deserves the respect behind them. This is everywhere on the internet, but I pass it along anyway: the complete text of Barack Obama's inauguration speech, given today. Anything in bold is mine. Of course, now begins the hard part. But with a leader of intelligence, compassion, and an eye on the big picture, rather than personal agendas, we might just have a chance. On this day, we gather becau...

Sunday, August 31, 2014. Clara Diesslin's Hot Milk Sponge Cake. Grandma and me, circa 1959? My favorite reason for baking it is as the support for garden-fresh strawberries instead of the more traditional biscuit-type shortcake, but I've topped it with many kinds of fruits and sometimes ice cream. Until this weekend, however, I never thought to top it with blueberries. I have blueberries in my freezer given to me by a friend and was trying to think of a good dessert for some of them. 2 c unbleached flour.
