Cookie Family Karate

Wednesday, 3 May 2017. Learning kata for me has always been quite formulaic. First I get to grips with the pattern step by step, turn by turn. Then I nail down the strikes and blocks. Then the stances. Then the little nuances of the kata that make it finished. Then the intensity and kime needed appropriate to the sections. There is a Friday evening class now specifically dedicated to kata. A great opportunity for me to see where the land lay with my kata having missed so much training. For the higher gra...

Cookie Family Karate: November 2011

http://cookiefamilykarate.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Monday, 28 November 2011. Yesterday was Black Belt grading day at the Isami Ryu dojo. Not mine (thankfully! Two of my fellow karateka were grading, Keith for his Shodan and Sensei Chrissy (who I assist in the Little Dragon's class) for her 3rd Dan. It was a tough experience for sure. Over an hour and a half of fitness/stamina training including all sorts of hideous things like tricep dips (yuk! LOL) and completed everything that was asked of me. The rest of the grading is something of a blur! I think I m...

Cookie Family Karate: *TUMBLEWEED*

http://cookiefamilykarate.blogspot.com/2014/07/tumbleweed.html

Monday, 7 July 2014. Feels a bit like that round here, doesn't it? I can't believe it's been over a year since I posted on here. I feel a bit like an imposter on my own blog! What's that all about? It had a huge impact on my time in the dojo (which became pretty much non-existent after a while). I did manage to make it back to training for a few weeks before Christmas last year then my husband's work schedule had a dramatic change. He was working much further away from home and much longer hours mean...

Cookie Family Karate: September 2011

http://cookiefamilykarate.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Friday, 2 September 2011. So, where does that leave you. When you've reached the point when what was total hyperfocus is now scattered. It's hard to pull back all those strands of thought into a place of focus again. Especially hard to balance pulling them back in just the right amount - to make sure you don't get to the hyperfocused point, but to allow enough focus to be able to progress. Be back soon. Hopefully! Posted by Marie Kendrick. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Other Cookie Blog. 10 Reasons I k...

Cookie Family Karate: June 2011

http://cookiefamilykarate.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 8 June 2011. Do You Want To Be A Black Belt? Following bow out at the senior classes Shihan usually takes a little time to give out any notices about upcoming events, to comment on how he thinks the class went and to generally talk about any points he feels need to be raised. Wow That gave me some serious pause of thought. My initial response was “Why would he even need to ask that? So then. Do I want to train for Black Belt? Immediately the answer for me is YES. Maybe the more important quest...

Isshinryu Journey: What an amazing book....

http://karateka-bushido.blogspot.com/2010/08/what-amazing-book.html

Study, training, progress, and observations. Wednesday, August 18, 2010. What an amazing book. I'm currently reading this book, and absolutely loving it. This man didn't lift weights seriously, until he was in his mid-thirties. He's 61-years old, and looks downright amazing. Below, I've included a YouTube video of him talking about different things. It's definitely worth a look. Wednesday, August 18, 2010. August 22, 2010 at 9:35 AM. Hi Frank, life certainly doesnt end at 40! August 27, 2010 at 2:11 PM.

Isshinryu Journey: Miscellaneous Updates

http://karateka-bushido.blogspot.com/2010/08/miscellaneous-updates.html

Study, training, progress, and observations. Monday, August 9, 2010. The Wansu kata is coming along nicely, but I still have a lot of work left to do. Of course, after the Wansu, it's time to begin working on the Chinto kata, which is another long and complex kata, but I'm less daunted, now that I've got the Naihanchin kata down, and I've got approximately one-third of the Wansu memorized. Check this guy out:. Monday, August 09, 2010. August 9, 2010 at 5:05 PM. What do you think? August 9, 2010 at 5:22 PM.

Isshinryu Journey: July 2010

http://karateka-bushido.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Study, training, progress, and observations. Saturday, July 31, 2010. Naihanchi Kata - FINALLY! I finally got the Naihanchi kata memorized. Writing it out, step-by-step, was just the thing I needed to do. It seems funny now, that I ever had a problem with it! Now comes the practice, practice, practice, and refining it. I have my freestyle class this afternoon, so I can work on it more, and demonstrate it for my Sensei, so he can make any corrections that need to be made. Saturday, July 31, 2010. The Naih...

Study, training, progress, and observations. Wednesday, June 30, 2010. My chiropractor is probably not going to be very happy with me, but I have a nearly 100% cessation of pain in both elbows! The first appointment I had, he did a technique called A.R.T., where he applied point-pressure with his thumbs to various points on the elbow and forearm, and had me move my arms in various range of motion movements. That was very effective, and left me pain-free for about three days. Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
