The University of Warwick. Soft Corals and other groups. Commonly assigned to the genus Undaria. Colonies are clusters of relatively thin, vertically projecting leaves, with calices on both sides, with expanses of irregular incrusting expanses. The series of calices are meandroid, with irregular ridges separating them. Colonies may cover several square metres. It is more ‘leafy’ than A. agaricities. Though small A. tenuifolia. Might be confused with bifacial A. agaricities.

The University of Warwick. Soft Corals and other groups. This species has leafy colonies, usually in single leaves that become whirls of fan or bowl shapes as they grow. Calices usually run in long concentric series separated by rather steep ridges, though in some these series are short. When large, the scrolling form of the colonies distinguishes it easily from A. fragilis. And its corallites are larger and more widely spaced. Skeletons are perhaps more easily confused with A. lamarcki.

Colonies of this species are a mixture of encrusting sheets, thick leaves or other irregular projections and flat plates. Calices occur usually on both sides of vertical projections, though the plates are not bifacial. And they are usually solitary although many examples may be seen of budding. Indeed, many apparently detached cups originally were connected to others and developed from stolon-like budding.
