A month under canvas. June 3, 2015. My friend Mandy just popped into the office and we discussed wine. Last night I was wondering: is it a pleasure, a habit or an addiction? A great evening camping. A month under canvas. June 9, 2015. I have a Magpie nest near my tent. Every morning they chatter away and I was struck this morning (trying not to get up as since my new neighbours arrived, I’ve been waking at 2.30/3am for ages when one of them gets up and undoes the zip) how complex the language of these birds is. A month under canvas. June 11, 2015. Having moved the tent slightly and my bed, I am once again sleeping soundly. My lower back has recovered and I no longer feel like one of those office workers John Betjeman talked about with ‘awkward hips’ – people who spend too long sitting down and walk like a penguin.
