Cortical Hemming and Hawing: May 2012

Tuesday, May 29, 2012. One of the things I love about being a neurobiologist is just how stunningly beautiful so many neural systems can be. Truthfully, there are many of these types of images that can be found throughout biology and really in all branches of science, however, this one comes from a blog I recently discovered that appears to be dedicated to all things neurosciencey. My thanks goes out to the Neuroimages. Blog, where you can see lots more like this one. Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Sunday Comics:...

Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Your home is probably contaminated with mouse urine! Unless you're R. Kelly, in which case it is likely contaminated with both mouse urine and human urine. But seriously, according to an article in Pacific Standard Magazine. Proximity to automobile traffic. Drinking too many soft drinks. Cleaning agents, plastic bottles. And flooring made from PVC. Even when they aren't saturated with mouse urine. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
Cortical Hemming and Hawing: Happy Valentine's Day: Some interesting things about love and longing
http://corticalhemandhaw.blogspot.com/2014/02/happy-valentines-day-some-interesting.html
Friday, February 14, 2014. Happy Valentine's Day: Some interesting things about love and longing. Of course, if you are now inspired to go out looking for love, maybe you should reconsider the benefits of being alone. According to a recent study at the University of Toronto. But, if you find yourself in that position, I guess there might even be an upside to settling for less and/or being in an unhappy relationship. According to a recent study in the journal. Though, while it might be good for your job o...
Cortical Hemming and Hawing: May 2013
http://corticalhemandhaw.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 25, 2013. So, I may not have as much time to write here as I used to, but I still collect various science stories from the internet that I find interesting and hope to blog about, but then they just sit in my bookmarks, which is becoming longer than a Sumo wrestler's grocery list, so here are some links to a few of the things that caught my attention:. If you want to know whether or not nice guys finish last, if you can tell a lot about a man from his handshake, and if blondes have more fun.

Science Digestive: May 2012

Monday, 14 May 2012. Last week I was ill. Not incapacitated, just a bit under the weather in an annoying way, rather than debilitated. It was my son's fault. Millen (which is his name) caught a cold of some sort. Not sure how, he's not really been near anyone with a cold that we've noticed, but that's apparently just one of the things kids do, find and incubate illnesses without any seeming cause. Their bodily emissions, you risk picking up any bugs they have. Who knew? Demonstrated, but I've seen/heard ...

Science Digestive: Ambiguous new year!
http://sciencedigestive.blogspot.com/2011/12/ambiguous-new-year.html
Saturday, 31 December 2011. Today, I shall be hearing the phrase 'Happy new year' a lot. I don't like it. I appreciate the sentiment behind it, when it is said to mean 'I hope you have a happy new year', often shortened to just 'happy new year', which is less specific but you can usually tell what is meant by it. More fool you, that's not how things work at all. That's like declaring the winner of a marathon before most of the runners have even crossed the starting line, or crowning the winner of Mas...
Science Digestive: Valentine's Massacre
http://sciencedigestive.blogspot.com/2012/02/valentines-massacre.html
Tuesday, 14 February 2012. Today is Valentine's Day. SAINT Valentine's day if you want to give it it's full official title. I was told in school that St Valentine was a Roman soldier who was imprisoned for many years and wrote a love letter to his girlfriend/wife/horse every day (it was the olden days, details are sketchy), and that's why we give romantic messages or gifts on the day named in his honour. This suggests more of a noble background, they didn't do grunt work like that, surely? Again, that's ...

Saturday, 14 April 2012. Life under the glittery Jackboot. I've not blogged in quite some time. Nothing personal, it's just that as of March 7th I've been a dad. Babies in the house tend to take up a lot of your time. Who knew? They're not very high up on the list, I'm afraid. But, sometimes you just have to speak out. Someone says something that strikes a chord, and you can't just remain silent while a great injustice continues. Today, in the Telegraph. Being bombed by a hard-liner Twink. Group It's dow...
