I rear rare breed pigs in woodlands near Devizes Wiltshire. Currently I have 3 Large Blacks. Both good for pork. And bacon, and are some of the friendilitsts breeds you could meet. I buy the pigs in at 8 weeks, when they are fully weaned, from local farms. Where I know they have been properly treated and fully wormed and got used to a natural healthy lifestyle. Like the rest of us pigs are what they eat. So I feed them on farmgate pellets I don’t use any. At 26 weeks the pigs for pork are ready for eating.

I love a good joint of pork but if I am honest it is mostly because of the crackling. When you get crackling right it can cause family feuds about who get the biggest piece. Got my pigs 2 weeks ago at the moment I am feeding them 3 lbs of food twice a day I've had some problems over apples. I have tried to feed them a diet supplemented with apples but they are not eating the apples. I don't know whether this is because they do not like them. when I give them one or two apples they eat them.
