The village is in a pleasant rural location with easy access to the Forest of Dean, South Wales and Bristol. Woolaston Parish Council 2016. Refuse collected from households on a fortnightly basis in a wheeled bin; this replaced the weekly black sack collection. Wheeled bins were provided. Weekly food waste collections introduced; collections from a caddy, which was provided, are made from the kerbside. The fortnightly garden waste service was changed to an opt-in charged for service, with collections continuing fortnightly. The charge is £26.00 per bin per year. Refuse collection arrangements since 2012.

Walk 2 Picnic Site Birchwood Woolaston Common Keynsham Lane. Approximately 4.75 miles (7.64 kilometres) of which about 1 miles is metalled surface, Ascent 200ft. 2 hours. Weekly Woolaston Walks on Wednesday. Equipment: Stout walking shoes/boots, thorn proof trousers/jacket, secateurs, gloves and a few yarns to share!
