The Half Empty | A pint for Dionysus
https://apintfordionysus.wordpress.com/2015/05/15/the-half-empty
A pint for Dionysus. May 15, 2015. I thought about calling this the Half Full but The Half Empty trips off the tongue better. Maybe I should call this the 50/50? But here’s why:. Every bottle I’ve opened has come out looking like this photo. Visually amazing to witness, not as much beer left to drink. My goal was to make a Mild ale and I have to say, it is easy to drink once you can drink it. Sweeter, with a nice coffee and chocolate blend, coming down further on the chocolate side. 6 oz Carafa 3. Common Ales: Sierra Nevada Pale | A pint for Dionysus
https://apintfordionysus.wordpress.com/2015/05/06/common-ales-sierra-nevada-pale
A pint for Dionysus. Common Ales: Sierra Nevada Pale. May 6, 2015. Sierra Nevada’s Pale ale has long been known as being one of the more important beers in the American craft brewing revolution. So I was excited to hear that it is still their best selling beer. An opportunity to try one of the landmark beers of the craft ale movement? In other words, this is a damn fine pale ale and it deserves its reputation as one of the beers to help kick off and revolutionize craft brewing. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

On the Rail: Baileys (Mill City Edition) | A pint for Dionysus

A pint for Dionysus. On the Rail: Baileys (Mill City Edition). May 4, 2015. As I traveled to Bailey’s I was struck by a moment that I didn’t want to be alone with. I don’t have much choice in the matter, though so I continued forward with the moment, doing the work. Then again, an acute sense of lonely is the worst reasons to find someone to be with. Healthy (or wise) people recognize that and behave accordingly. So it is tonight. Tastings from Washington (mostly). Common Ales: Sierra Nevada Pale. You ar...

A pint for Dionysus. All posts by grotusque. My name is Dan and I like a lot of things, but this blog will be about the beer I drink and occasionally make. Well. Mostly. Organic Beer Fest 2016. August 19, 2016. I’ve been invited to this years Organic Beer Fest. Let’s take a look…. First thought: hey, a mushroom beer! Second thought: huh, the rest of. These styles don’t really lean towards the experimental side. But that’s OK! Once you have the basics down, then you can let ambition kick in. I don’t...

Lagers Are The New Black | A pint for Dionysus
https://apintfordionysus.wordpress.com/2015/05/13/lagers-are-the-new-black
A pint for Dionysus. Lagers Are The New Black. May 13, 2015. What goes around, comes around. After a near relentless focus on ales for the past two decades, in part because lagers were sealed up as far as the market was concerned, craft brewers are (apparently, or at least according to this article) turning their attention to lagers. As always, I feel this is a good thing. There is no perfect sauce, there are only perfect sauces, as they say. On The Rail: Sandy Hut. May 13, 2015 at 2:01 pm. Let’s h...

Did Stone Brewing’s Berlin Beer Rally Send the Wrong Message? | Beer & Whiskey Brothers
https://beerandwhiskeybros.com/2014/08/01/did-stone-brewings-berlin-beer-rally-send-the-wrong-message
Did Stone Brewing’s Berlin Beer Rally Send the Wrong Message? August 1, 2014. Did Stone Brewing’s Berlin Beer Rally Send the Wrong Message? Stone Brewing Company recently announced it’s opening the first American-owned craft brewery in Europe, located in an old gasworks facility in Berlin. The intended symbolism was clear; Stone will crush traditional mass-produced European beers. But what about the unintended symbolism? It’s not in the spirit of craft beer. 8220;Nothing like promoting your brand by putt...

On The Rail: Sandy Hut | A pint for Dionysus
https://apintfordionysus.wordpress.com/2015/05/11/on-the-rail-sandy-hut
A pint for Dionysus. On The Rail: Sandy Hut. May 11, 2015. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Sandy Hut; my ambient memories are dark and tinted green but enjoyable. The Sandy Hut was one of Portland’s better known and loved dive bars so there was an understandable concern when the place was sold to new owners. What would they do? How would it change? So I’ve come to check it out now that it’s been renovated. The man’s taste in shirts is questionable but is assessment of this bar isn̵...

Transitions | A pint for Dionysus
https://apintfordionysus.wordpress.com/2015/05/08/transitions
A pint for Dionysus. May 8, 2015. After the big to-do that was Elysian Brewing’s sale, I wondered. If breweries were starting to plan for the days when the founders would have to put their brewery into the hands of someone else. About the changes at large in the craft brewing world, suggest that some businesses, like Deschutes and Brooklyn are thinking about just that. I find that encouraging because I am hoping that some of these craft breweries find a way to become legacy breweries. I craft (home) brew.

A Correction | A pint for Dionysus
https://apintfordionysus.wordpress.com/2015/01/30/a-correction
A pint for Dionysus. January 30, 2015. Awhile ago I wrote a post about 10 Barrel’s sale to ABInBev. Basically telling everyone to stop acting like the sky was falling. And then AB bought Elysian. The ensuing public conversation brought to light a few things that has made me reconsider my stance. Let’s face it: The brewery that made Loser with it’s “Corporate Beer Still Sucks” tagline is not. Going to have the same values as the one owned by the largest beverage conglomerate in the world. And while th...
