Doing it ourselves: the landscaping saga! Part five: Planting the hedge. Planting a hedge sounds like an easy thing to do, until you’re faced with 200 plants and a shovel. Here are my top tips for success:. These little plants are fantastic for three reasons. Firstly, they’re fantastically cheap. So cheap that if you loose one or two plants to the elements (or to a not-so-green thumb! You won’t be so devastated that you want to give up on gardening forever. I’ve talked about where to buy plants here.

Was it greener on the other side? Those of you who have been following along will know that we were originally quoted $44 340 for our builder to do the landscaping for us. After we finished laughing, we decided we would give it a go ourselves. Was it worth it? Or should we have just handed over the cash? It was absolutely worth it! Here’s how we know:. We learnt new things, discovered new muscles, and it was nice to work together on achieving a common goal. We make a pretty good team. Speaking of budget,...

Purchasing plants | cornerstone26

If you’ve ever attempted to have a ‘green thumb’ then you probably know that plants are expensive. Here are my top tips for getting plants into the garden at the lowest cost possible. 1 Let it grow. Plants, by their very definition, will grow. If you can manage to resist the urge for an “instant” garden then plant smaller plants and let them do their thing. There are a few benefits to choosing smaller plants:. They cost significantly less (and are cheaper to replace if you manage to kill them all! If you...

Doing it ourselves: the landscaping saga! Absolutely sick to death of the dirt trampling into the house, and with the promise of an extra set of helping hands, we excitedly ordered turf. If you can recall our landscaping plan. What kind of turf? The most expensive kind, of course! A soft leaf buffalo and is by far the best choice around. I’d hate to know what a hard leaf buffalo looks like! Anyway, if you’re unsure, Buy Turf Online. Has a handy comparison table and if you want a hard wearing, drought res...

Doing it ourselves: the landscaping saga! Part four: Stepping stones. Oh, dear followers, I have been so exhausted by the landscaping that I haven’t even wanted to. I’m so sorry for leaving you hanging. But, the good news is that we are on the home stretch. Up next is the stepping stones. We had a couple of places to put these, out the front and out the back. Basically, it was just like laying giant garden edging. We followed the same golden rules- a string line, some cement and a whole lot of patience.

Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Halloween Costumes: General Grevious and Boba Fett. Well, I would say that some follow-up is in order. First off. General Grevious! I did in fact complete the General Grevious costume in 2013, and he LOVED it! Here are a few shots of the work along the way. Partial deconstruction and reconstruction of the 2013 costume. This kid plays hard in his costumes, so a lot of it had fallen apart by the end of the first Halloween. Rib cage added to the shirt. :). Whenever I am faced wi...

Could still be dead. But just not a lot of sew time. Finished some baby quilts a while back. I have been knitting more-so these days. Maybe a knit post soon? Here are the quilts:. Robots on the front, Mustaches on the back. Just some easy blocks, with swirly FMQ. Staches all folded up. A little label to cover a boo-boo. And then some colors and fun for Reed:. Simple patchwork, with space frogs and dogs on the back. Wrap around backing into a binding. Folded up and ready for delivery. I didn't die, I swear.
