http://worldlywise.blogspot.com/2008/05/waves.html
A blog to support GCSE Geography Students at Chesterton Community College, Cambridge. Saturday, 3 May 2008. Waves get their energy from the wind. As the wind blows over the surface of the sea, it creates friction. This frictional drag causes water particles to rotate and their energy is transferred forward in the form of a wave. Whilst the water moves forward, the water particles return to their original position. When the wave breaks, water rushes up the beach. This is called the swash. Geog on the Spot.

A blog to support GCSE Geography Students at Chesterton Community College, Cambridge. Saturday, 3 May 2008. Constructive and Destructive Waves. Constructive waves are low energy waves with a stronger swash than backwash. Where there are less than 8 waves breking each minute they tend to be constructive waves. Constructive waves tend to deposit material and build up a beach. The Wycombe High School website has some excellent animations of both constructive and destructive waves. You can see them here.

geogblog@bushloe: Measuring and Mapping Development
http://geogblogbushloe.blogspot.com/2009/02/measuring-and-mapping-development.html
Thursday, February 05, 2009. Measuring and Mapping Development. The trouble with development is working out what it is. Is it wealth and if so how do you measure it? Perhaps we could look at how much money a country has, but does that tell us if the money is spread across the population of a country? Perhaps we look at other ways of measuring development like how long people live or how well educated they are? Even more helpful is the gapminder site. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
