Afternoon Snack – Adventures in Demland
https://adventuresindemland.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/afternoon-snack
August 12, 2015. The kids love to eat the corn the way the Dem people do- ‘grilled’ ( or, in my opinion, burned) in a fire. A couple of friends helped the kids make a fire and burn, I mean, grill their corn. It’s not what I would choose for a snack, but they were happy 🙂. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. babies, babies, babies – Adventures in Demland
https://adventuresindemland.wordpress.com/2015/12/28/babies-babies-babies
December 28, 2015. Babies, babies, babies. The last couple weeks have brought three new babies into the Dem tribe. The ladies on our team were able to be there to help and learn more about how things are done here. For the most part they deliver babies outdoors. This baby was born in the garden right in back of his mom’s house. She labored there while ladies took turns pouring water on her back and rubbing her stomach with wet leaves. So amazing to witness a new little life coming into the world! You are...

August 11, 2015. The kids helped process some beans we received from a Dem lady. It was a little scary at times, but we survived with all fingers intact 🙂. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. November 17, 2015. This kid is in Kindergarten and cracks me up every day. He keeps asking me when can he be done with this and go to college, because, of course, he’s going to be an astronaut. I tell him he at least needs to know how to read and write his letters before he’s off to college 🙂. Raquel is doing 4th grade with Bob Jones video school. Roman likes to watch with sometimes 🙂. She is also (finally! Starting to enjoy reading, making this book lover very happy! 8216;The Guys’.

Bride Price – Adventures in Demland
https://adventuresindemland.wordpress.com/2015/12/28/bride-price
December 28, 2015. For the first time since living here, we witnessed the paying of a bride price. The husband has to pay quite a bit in money and pigs for his bride and they rarely have enough to pay up front. This couple has been married for a few years already but I guess it was time. They had a feast in the morning with corn, greens and sweet potatoes cooked in a pit in the ground along with ‘yummy’ red fruit. They started to wrangle the pigs that were part of the payment and tied them to stakes.
