http://crosswords.blogspot.com/2015/07/movies-winter-blockbuster-season.html

Culture Shock Temper Tantrums and Other Expository Prose. The winter blockbuster season continues. Serious movies have to start coming out soon, or my brain will rot. Terminator Genisys. Was made into a television show? Like Guardians of the Galaxy. I know I said I was done with comicbook movies, but this is still a movie to see if you’ve got time and a discount voucher, and I had both. So, in another couple of weeks, out comes the latest franchise reboot, with Fantastic Four. Yes, I will go see this.

Culture Shock Temper Tantrums and Other Expository Prose. Rules of the Road. The first rule of cycling in the city: they don't see you. Are you bicycling into Sydney yourself? We have one friend who is an avid biker(spandex, helmet, etc), who bikes a minimum 50 miles a day. But he is retired and only goes on certain roads, none with trailer trucks if he can help it. Culture Shock Temper Tantrums and Other Expository Prose. Reading the latest New Yorker. The latest I’ve received to date, delivery being somewhat more delayed than it would be if I were still a local), I encountered an article by Adam Kirsch, ”The System”. Reviewing two new books on the Nazi concentration camps, both of which sounding quite excellent and quite terrifying. I was struck by the final paragraph, in a more contemporary context: Australia’s treatment of asylum seekers. View my complete profile.

thief of time: Language and Dictionaries

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2005/01/language-and-dictionaries.html

Wednesday, January 12, 2005. I wonder if it’s just the difference between my son and me, or if it’s a generational difference? The other day, my son lent me a magazine which I quite enjoyed. In one article, à propos of nothing, there was a little box with a dictionary’s favourite words for 2004. I had a quick look at the list and recognised every word but two. I’ll have to take a stand for intellectual integrity and curiosity and force him to look things up from now on, not just hand him a word on a plat...

thief of time: Stages

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2004/12/stages.html

Tuesday, December 14, 2004. We had an end of an era happening on the weekend. My son had his final concert at his high school and it felt very strange to know that was it after six years. Posted by Bee at 9:24 PM. In a rut in Oz, or life in suburban Sydney. Could be suburban anywhere, really. View my complete profile. The Joys of Motherhood. Size and Weight and Body Image. thief of time: January 2005

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2005_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 22, 2005. One thing I don’t mind is a nice walk in the bush early in the day, of course, well-covered from the sun and on a well-marked path. Something happened the other day in one of our larger department stores that reminded me of my hiking days not the possible danger, just the frustration. My daughter was busy trying on various things and I decided to use the time to find the department store’s facilities. Posted by Bee at 6:28 PM. Wednesday, January 12, 2005. The other day, my son...

thief of time: Keeping in Touch

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2004/12/keeping-in-touch.html

Friday, December 31, 2004. This is definitely the time of year to get caught up on things. I write to people I haven’t heard from since the year before and there are occasionally a few moments to myself to straighten up my mess around the edges. This year my corresponding was a bit worse than normal. It’s been getting quite bad for the past while, but this year I surpassed myself in the fine art of procrastination. Now it looks as though I’ve forgotten her. I really have to try and do better next year.

thief of time: June 2004

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2004_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 22, 2004. I was wondering what the habit was in other countries when they paint signs on roads. Here in NSW, instead of printing things from top to bottom, as one does in English, the sign is printed from bottom to top. This is not a major problem, of course, but it is a bit disconcerting when you’re driving along and should be concentrating on the road and all of a sudden you have to take a mental side step and figure out what you’ve just read. Posted by Bee at 5:04 PM. I got back home jus...

thief of time: November 2004

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 29, 2004. Size and Weight and Body Image. I think I’ve read somewhere that wealthy people tend, in general, to be more health-conscious than poorer people. This apparently means they are inclined to make better lifestyle choices, one of the consequences of which is that they tend to be thinner than the average person from the poorer side of society. To my amazement, after swimming in my usual sizes, one of the pairs I finally did buy was actually a size six. Now, there is no way in t...

thief of time: The Joys of Motherhood

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2004/12/joys-of-motherhood.html

Thursday, December 02, 2004. The Joys of Motherhood. What good are children anyways? You raise them to follow certain standards, like responsibility and hard work, and they take off on music tours at every opportunity, leaving their poor, old grey-haired mothers to do their paper rounds. Gee, I love Sydney summers. It makes me fancy a quick trip Up Over for a few months say till March. I wouldn’t mind a bit of snow and ice for awhile, if this is what the rest of our summer is going to be like. Getting Ri...

thief of time: April 2004

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2004_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 27, 2004. As I think I mentioned before, I come from a fairly small town and moved into this rather large city when I married. One of the things that’s really different to deal with is the traffic. When I first got here I didn’t drive for about a year. Not only was the volume of traffic horrendous, but my husband’s car was a manual, which added to the trauma. I should mention that not only am I a nervous driver, but I’m totally lacking in any sense of direction whatsoever. One of the thing...

thief of time: July 2004

http://bee3.blogspot.com/2004_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 29, 2004. Observations on a Train Trip. I had to take a trip into the city today by train and I noticed a couple of totally unrelated things. I know I’m definitely showing my age, but has anyone noticed an increase in the number of older men who take the fashionably unshaven look to mean that they have permission to skip shaving for a few days? Posted by Bee at 8:06 PM. Saturday, July 24, 2004. Sometimes it’s great not having to be on the go all the time. It doesn’t happen very often a...
