Monday, September 27, 2010. 上週去九毛九商店買了一些小玩意兒。其中有一個是粉紅色的皇冠，我打算把它當作羞恥之帽。 不知道為什麼講到這種東西，學生和我的西班牙同事都不約而同的問我為什麼沒有買那種高高的帽子。我腦中浮現的是電影裡文革被捉去遊街戴的那種高帽子。到底是誰先開始這種東西的？真想不透。不過我的構想其實只是想買頂好笑的帽子而已，目的是提醒學生說中文，只要一說英文就得戴這個怪帽子一分鐘。如果我不得已得用英文解釋，也必須戴上帽子。當然學生都很樂。 不過，這個帽子大概太孩子氣了，像三歲小孩生日會戴的公主冠。結果每個學生都很想戴戴看，特別是皮一點的男孩，故意說了幾句英文就為了戴上那帽子，然後引誘同學不小心說出了英文，叫同學也戴上帽子被嘲笑一番。不過學生嬉嬉哈哈之下倒是警覺起來，每個人努力想出法子用中文溝通，就算是彼此拌嘴也好。真是完全被他們打敗了。 Links to this post. Saturday, April 30, 2011. 在教學裏最怕的一個主題，對我而言，不是「把」字句，不是怎麼解釋「了」的問題，也不是「能／可以／會」這幾個剪不斷理還亂的連枝兄弟，而是…. 12300;中國地理」！ 12300;中國地理」，這個讓我國高中念了六年的科目，是個遙遠又讓人心虛的東西。 地理和歷史在那高中大學都要聯考的年代，其實是我最拿手的科目之一。從國一開始我就學會用白報紙描課本上的地圖，然後一一標上城市，河流，鐵路。復習的時候，憑記憶把整張圖重建出來，是我熟練的準備方式，中外地理都是同樣的方式，一直到高中。一個學期下來可以累積出厚厚一疊用薄紙描的地圖。那個時候的我可以把某鐵路會穿過的省分和城市一一照順序念出來，也可以隨手一畫把主要鐵路線全部標出來（是說這樣我就可以坐火車到任何城市去旅遊嗎？還是做旅行社人工訂票的專家？）結果搞到現在我隨手一畫，...Links to this post. Tuesday, June 22, 2010. 後來下學期開始學動詞現在式，老師也開始讓我們背空英的單字，早自習的時候小考。我幾乎都是在校車上背的，雜誌的字卡剪下來，然後一股腦背下，小考全部吐回紙上，跟我一點關係也沒有。因為沒有使用的機會，也沒有語境，這些字就像我現在每天被迫背的幾十個西班牙文單字一樣，如果我沒有找機會在不同的時候，聽見別人使用它們，他們也同樣會在考試時被吐回紙上，然後再見。 國中二年級的時候，老師開始會帶我們去特別教室放錄影帶給我們看。內容是一個歐洲來的交換學生住在美國家庭的故事。那時候聽影片上的英文，簡直就像我現在得躲在語言實驗室看那一遍又一遍的西班牙文聽力練習短片一樣，完全像機關槍一樣，所有的字都黏在一起，每個字好像都有無限可能與無限的意思，但就是我聽不懂的那個意思。我不太確定那樣的影帶幫助到我的任何聽力。因為真正到我能聽得懂考試型的對話，是到我大學考托福的時候，又過了許多年。 這是我常常在教學中得提醒自己，不要讓自己對課程內容，考試結果的重視勝過最基本的教學目標- 也就是給予學生用語言溝通的動機。 Links to this post. 小學四年級的夏天，被媽媽捉去...

Saturday, January 29, 2011. 剛開始教高中生的時候，最大的挑戰是如何在管理與教學之外，仍能保持住學生的興趣。從台灣那套照本宣科式教育體系一路念到大學的我，面對完全不同文化與習慣的美國學生，常常焦慮於自己教學不夠活潑。雖然念研究所時也修過一些語教相關的課，但是當時所學到的經驗與策略幾乎都是針對成人學習者。我用了幾次以後，很快就發現一些我拿來教大學生很有效的活動，教高中生根本沒有用，就被我沖到馬桶裡去了。高一學生都吵著要吃糖，要玩遊戲。當時我總是為了遊戲想破頭。我積極上網尋找遊戲的點子，也開始買書來看。不過，一直到目前為止，市面上這類的書也不算太多。 我所買的第一本用遊戲來教中文的書就是 Let's Play Games in Chinese. 65292;相信許多人都已經有這本書了。在茫無頭緒的日子裡，這本書給了我不少點子。它收錄了一些非常經典的語言遊戲，而且因為是針對中文教學而發，不需要像改編英語教學遊戲一樣得符合中文語言特色。有幾個書中介紹的遊戲我到現在還常用。 我幾乎都是有空時把拿起書來翻看，然後看到覺得不錯的，思考一下可以怎麼改編。...第三本書是ӎ...

Wednesday, March 24, 2010. 有些語法我覺得用講的倒不如比實際練還快。對高一高二的學生如果還能加上一點互動和肢體表演比手畫腳，效果會更好。我常用的方式是想辦法用index cards讓學生可以自己動手寫與畫，然後馬上拿來用。以教"越來越…"這個句型為例:. 1．給所有的學生一張剪成一半的3X5 index card, 然後跟學生腦力激盪，要他們喊出所有他們知道的形容詞(我不想教越來越喜歡…這種越來越 特定動詞的句型，所以直接用形容詞)。學生提供的時候，老師把字寫在黑板上。 2接下來要學生自已選一個黑板上的形容詞(目的是不要重複)，然後寫在卡上，一面寫字，一面畫圖表意。 3 再來就是介紹「越來越…」這個語法的意思和用法。老師可以畫圖表示:「David越來越高。」. 4學生大概知道意思以後以後，就把卡收回，洗牌，字面向下，一個學生給一張，告訴他們不可以給別人看到。 有時候學生表演得讓人實在看不出是在做什麼。不過沒關係，大家笑一笑反而印象更深刻。 這些字我又拿回來資源回收一次，這次是教「更…」. 我想，其實學習語言有太多的字需要學，但是不論在哪個階段A...我教過他們ӎ...

Thursday, May 26, 2011. 12300;相聲」這種要能夠欣賞，除了語言得有一定掌握以外，對於文化意含，幽默的表達和方式得有一定的了解。另一方面，西式的單口脫口秀的方式，也需要對文化和語言有足夠的了解，才能夠體會笑點在哪裡。這讓我想到英式Monty Python一類的幽默，對我們華人來說，雖然可以透過字幕來了解，可是很多人可能還是覺得不知道有什麼好笑。就像除了台灣的相聲以外，有時候亂找一些大陸的相聲段子，我也真的不確定我要不要笑。 既然要介紹「相聲」這種東西，我想那從西方的幽默和表演方式開始好了，這樣也許學生可以對中西幽默的表現做一番比較。我用的是Eddie Izzard的一段講他一個英國人在法國說法文的片段，跟相聲瓦舍嘲弄不同語言和口音的段子來做一個對比：. Sunday, March 27, 2011. 在草稿匣裡積了一堆寫了開頭沒有寫完的文章，以最近生活的狀態，實在不知道何年何月才會寫完。 因為忙著太多的事情，我一直忘了跟學生宣布這件事情，結果是別堂課的老師告訴他們，然後學生紛紛跑來問我是不是真的。說真的，教了四年這還是第一次中文課辦校外教學，（而且不是我的主意，是我同事的主意）學生都樂得不得了。雖然我私底下覺得展品只是普普，可是不知道為什麼我告訴學生要看些什麼，學生每個人都說，「哇好酷！我要看我要看！」.
