Aún Estamos Vivos: October 2013
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 04, 2013. America's Common Sense Cardinal. Friday was the Feast of St. Francis, and while Pope Francis spent the day in Assisi celebrating and commemorating it, he was simultaneously lamenting the latest immigration disaster at Lampedusa. Saying,“Today is a day of tears. Such things go against the spirit of the world.”. And Wuerl and Chaput on the Interview. We must be better people; we must love all people, even those who advocate abortion. It is only if we love them that we will be ...

Aún Estamos Vivos: December 2013
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 04, 2013. Detroit as a National Bellweather. Today, President Obama gave a speech. In which he called economic inequality and the resulting lack of social mobility "the defining challenge of our time." This comes right on the heels of Amazon announcing that they were seriously looking at using drones within the next few years to deliver packages to customers' doorsteps (what will happen to UPS and FedEx drivers? Which is very likely to put existing public pension commitments at risk.

Aún Estamos Vivos: More on Syria and Other Matters...
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2013/09/more-on-syria-noticed-over-weekend.html
Sunday, September 08, 2013. More on Syria and Other Matters. Some interesting things on the web I noticed over the weekend. 1) A beautiful prayer from a Syrian Jesuit who is now studying at Creighton University. A Prayer for Syria. 2) A Syrian-American woman gives an earful to John McCain at a town meeting. As for Obama, shame on the Democrats for not speaking up more strongly on this. It if was George W. Bush doing this, they'd be all over. Hmm Here's what NCR's page looks like this morning. 4) Finally,...

Aún Estamos Vivos: March 2013
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 30, 2013. The Kind of Pope We've Needed. My faith was never really in danger, but it needed a real boost, a real shot in the arm. The election of Pope Francis has provided that for me. His predecessor was not without certain strengths, and the press has been presenting various contrasts and continuities between the two, but for me, the main difference is this. Dear Pope Francis, Thank you for washing the feet of youth like us in Italy. We also are young and made mistakes. Society ...Dear ...

Aún Estamos Vivos: April 2012
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 14, 2012. The April 15 Deadline. No, not Tax Day. The April 15 deadline is approaching for the SSPX to accept the Vatican's " Doctrinal Preamble. The details of which have been kept secret from the rest of us, for some unknown reason. As a matter of fact, there is a news story. Just out that something came in from the Waffen-SSPX in response. Meanwhile, in his Chrism Mass, Benedict gives the Austrian Priests Initiative the back of his hand. I reiterate what I've stated in the past. Di...

Aún Estamos Vivos: Regarding Pope Francis... Will Everyone Please Chill?
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2013/09/regarding-pope-francis-will-everyone.html
Sunday, September 29, 2013. Regarding Pope Francis. Will Everyone Please Chill? The Catholic Circular Firing Squad goes on, like an endless loop of Reservoir Dogs. I suppose it was only a matter of time before our segmented, siloed, sorted, and completely polarized American political culture infected us as a Church. How could it not? It has been percolating since Holy Thursday, but look at the recent fallout over "The Interview.". We treat popes now the same way we do presidents and other politicans.

Aún Estamos Vivos: Blue is the Most Schizophrenic Color
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2013/11/blue-is-most-schizophrenic-color.html
Friday, November 29, 2013. Blue is the Most Schizophrenic Color. I was trying to decide if "hypocritical" would have been a better word to use, but I really don't think so. I'm not sure I can pinpoint the reason why, but "schizophrenic" just seems to fit better in this circumstance. I don't think it's a matter of hypocrisy, at least not consciously so. I made several years ago in a post I wrote about the film Au Revoir les Infants. I have not seen it, but I'll point out that it has won a number of awards...

http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 17, 2012. They Can't Pop the Corks Quite Yet. Can they really make a deal with just one out of four? Remember those toothpaste and sugarless gum commercials. From decades past when 4 out of 5 dentists were said to have all agreed on something or another? My father-in-law was a dentist. He liked to say that he was the 5th dentist. SSPX Bishop Bernard Fellay must. Be feeling like one of those outliers today. It looks like there may be trouble in SSPX-land, eh? Nor should they be. They also ar...

Aún Estamos Vivos: June 2012
http://estamos-vivo.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Peter D. Williams Wins the Laurel Leaf. He has a new fan in me. By Hans Holbein the Younger (1527). My wife is an anglophile. It’s understandable. She has some English and Welsh in her blood. As for me, not so much. Sure, I love Downton Abbey, British comedies, and much of what can be seen on PBS. Which brings me to Peter D. Williams. I first heard Williams on Justin Brierley’s Unbelievable. Program, a weekly show on Premier Radio that usually pits believers and unbelievers agains...
