Brain Grass: The State of Things - Reverend and the Makers
http://braingrass.blogspot.com/2007/09/state-of-things-reverend-and-makers.html
Thursday, 27 September 2007. The State of Things - Reverend and the Makers. It starts with an electronic choir, epic and patronising, some wise words of wisdom, a "little introduction to the state of things". Cheesy drum machine, and then finally kicks in the true appeal of this Sheffield-grown six-piece kicks in: a wonderful, danceable bass. May be disappointed with how much more they sound like an Ian Brown solo outfit here. The Machine", featuring Turner is good; "Bandits" is better, featuring a varie...

Assistant Voyager: November 2008
http://assistantvoyager.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 23 November 2008. Nothing - the best product you can ever own. A weekend of nothingness is somewhat cathartic. There's a reason why we feel better for doing nothing even though we should be doing something. And that reason is most likely to be that we can do it all tomorrow. Besides, the worst that can happen is that I have a few all nighters and skip a lot more meals, right? Tuesday, 18 November 2008. Hate the sin, not the sinner. And so, to try evening out the ratio of moans to smiles:. It's be...

Assistant Voyager: June 2008
http://assistantvoyager.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 18 June 2008. The record shows I took the blows. France will forever be a place that I associate with escapism and good times, but at the same time I could never commit to coming back here on a more permanent basis. Not until I'm old enough to retire, anyway. Yearly holidays to visit friends that are still here will be enough to satisfy my nostalgic yearnings, which will surely come to the fore in about a year's time. How do I know this? Tuesday, 10 June 2008. Even now as I sit here and lament...

Assistant Voyager: August 2010

Saturday, 14 August 2010. House pride. Or lack thereof. Sure as I am that I've mentioned this before, I absolutely despise the notion of packing up one's belongings, only for them to have to be unpacked a mere couple of hours later at their destination. Assistant Voyager: Hate the sin, not the sinner

Tuesday, 18 November 2008. Hate the sin, not the sinner. And so, to try evening out the ratio of moans to smiles:. How does an elephant ask for a bun? He smiles politely and says "Can I have a bun, please? Boom boom, as good ol' Basil Brush would say. I'm not convinced this joke works without the upper-arm-mashing-face trunk manoeuvre. 19 November 2008 at 22:34. A little tricky to implement. But if I could be bothered to look, I'm sure some clever sod has posted a video on YouTube. La Vague, Irrésolue.

The Sure Motif: October 2008
http://thesuremotif.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
John C. Reilly. Samuel L. Jackson. Sunday, October 19, 2008. This unremittingly bleak tale of murder and attrition from director David Fincher is an astonishing cinematic statement, that remains as shocking today as when it was first released in 1995. It is a masterpiece of the macabre and modern gothic, and sits in the same category as Psycho. A film that proves pure genre pieces can be as profound and inventive as any cinematic expression. Rather than the why. Of the grisly murders. As Fincher unveils ...

The Sure Motif: December 2008
http://thesuremotif.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
John C. Reilly. Samuel L. Jackson. Sunday, December 14, 2008. This sparse, poignant 1979 film from critic turned first-time-director Christopher Petit is a rare example of a British road movie. Financed by Wim Wenders' production company, the film centres on a young man who travels from London to Bristol to investigate the mysterious death of his brother. Oppressively bleak and yet somehow ultimately uplifting, a feat accomplished without being remotely redemptive, Radio On. Is worth persevering with to ...

Sunday, 26 August 2007. It's all Greek to me. When you go to Blogger from abroad, instead of the page loading up in the language you originally set your blog up in, it automatically loads up in the language of the country you're in. It's taken me four goes to get to this page, I nearly deleted my entire blog by accident, and I can't work out for the life of me how to add links. Posted by katy yelland. Friday, 29 February 2008. I'm doing the Paris half marathon on Sunday 2nd March 2008 (that's in 2 days time! And have decided that as well as it being a good chance to prove to myself that I can endure 2 hours or more of physical suffering and get a T-shirt at the end, I might as well take the opportunity to raise some money for a cause that I think is important. The website is www.refugee-action.org.uk. Otherwise, wish me luck. To sponsor me, visit www.justgiving.com/katyyelland. Posted by katy yelland.
