And other Clear Sky Charts. To have a good night for observing,. We need a dark, cloudless, non-hazy sky. Some things to keep in mind when planning your visit to the Custer Observatory:. A Full Moon is BAD. For observing - even the moon appears flat and washed out! The bigger the moon, the brighter it is and that bright moonlight washes out all the deep sky objects people normally come to look at. Generally, the less moon - the better. Check this moon calendar. Clouds, rain, fog are BAD.

What's up this month. Welcome to the Custer Institute and Observatory. Long Island's oldest public observatory (est. 1927). Suggested donation of $5 adults and $3 children. Don't forget your coat, hat, and gloves - its C-O-L-D and all the observing is out in the open air! Updated: 03/17/Two Thousand Eighteen. And the moon phase. Saturday Night Observing is from 7pm to midnight where volunteer Staff provide guided tours of the sky. Last Friday each month. 7:00pm Video Gaming Night! Last Friday each month.
