Left Midfield: September 2012
http://dahtake.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
A contemporary blog looking at today's issues from a centre-left perspective. Tuesday, 25 September 2012. The road to 1984? In June of this year the government published its draft Communications Data Bill. Which, if passed would give the government far reaching powers to search and store private information. The government naturally have all sorts of justifications, principally security concerns, yet they successfully opposed a similar bill which the previous Labour government attempted to introduce.
Left Midfield: July 2015
http://dahtake.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
A contemporary blog looking at today's issues from a centre-left perspective. Sunday, 26 July 2015. If there are two things I have in common with John Mann, the Labour MP for Bassetlaw, it's that we're both Labour members, and we are both supporting Yvette Cooper's candidacy to be the next leader. But where we differ significantly, is on the future of the leadership contest. Mr Mann has today called for the contest to be halted. Because of, what he called, 'hard-left' infiltrators. Three of the candidate...
Left Midfield: February 2012

A contemporary blog looking at today's issues from a centre-left perspective. Sunday, 12 February 2012. 8217; is the only question they ever ask. Their dishonest strategy of blaming Labour for everything the bankers did wrong ran out of gas five miles back down the road. It will be interesting to see what new PR wangle they come up with next to disguise the failure of their own analysis.". As an article in The Independent on January 29th so amply demonstrated, when it was revealed that plans for a second...
Left Midfield: That vote, and why we should stay out of Syria!
http://dahtake.blogspot.com/2013/09/that-vote-and-why-we-should-stay-out-of.html
A contemporary blog looking at today's issues from a centre-left perspective. Monday, 9 September 2013. That vote, and why we should stay out of Syria! For the second time in a decade, the government of Britain seems intent in taking the country into a war nobody, outside of our political leadership wants. In 2003 it was Iraq, and the regime of Saddam Hussein, this time it's Syria and Bashar Al-Assad. So as 2013 unfolds, once again war looms in the middle-east, in a situation which divides the permanent ...
Left Midfield: August 2012

A contemporary blog looking at today's issues from a centre-left perspective. Wednesday, 22 August 2012. Firing the first shots. For many of those that lived in Colchester, the first action of the Civil Wars took place on the 22nd August 1642. When St. John's Abbey, the home of Sir John Lucas, was attacked by a crowd from the town, and set in train what became known as the 'Stour Valley Riots.'. That he did much to antagonise the gentlemen and common people of Colchester. Ship money was a tax a Monarch i...

Damn Subdermal Irritant | Politics, War and Coffee
Politics, War and Coffee. My Dad is Dead. In many ways I am still processing this fact. It still seems surreal, unbelievable even a week later. I suppose it is that way with sudden and unexpected deaths. When my grandmother passed away back in January after a year-long battle with motor neurone disease, we were already mentally prepared for it. When she was taken into hospital, we all knew there was a good chance she would never return home. As far as we know, I was the last person to see him alive. ...

Jutt's Weblog - My Thoughts on Ambigrams
One popular ambigram theme is to make symbiotograms of opposites. Black and white, life and death, love and hate—these are some of the most commonly attempted couples I've seen. The latest ambigram I made fits very well into this category. Zenith – Nadir. Inkscape, August 2010. A Touch of Alchemy. Here's a relatively easy ambigram I did recently. GIMP, July 2010. My t/o conversion is by no means original—for example, Robert Maitland already used it in his Bounty Hunter. Cities for the ACAC. I was surpris...
