Candid Classics: Pondering Light in August
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011/07/pondering-light-in-august.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Thursday, July 7, 2011. Pondering Light in August. I am pretty excited to tell you.I just finished another Faulkner book that I actually understood. I'm feeling quite accomplished! Perhaps Radcliffe kindly listed these novels in order of difficulty and it will be smooth sailing from here on out? And worked my way up to. The Sound and the Fury. I might have appreciated it more. Not because they sang chart topping hits.

Candid Classics: Sons and Lovahs
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011/06/sons-and-lovahs.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Yes, it's true. I couldn't say the title of the book without thinking of the Will Ferrell/Rachel Dratch sketches on SNL. Sadly, I couldn't find the videos on Youtube to share (although my search terms did yield a lot of interesting and slightly scary results). These book titles are really triggering some random associations in my brain. By DH Lawrence. I really liked this book! Labels: Coming o...

Candid Classics: May 2011
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Wednesday, May 25, 2011. There was something in the air that night. The stars were bright. I just finished reading Virginia Woolf's. And yes, every time I say Orlando, it makes me want to start singing made up versions of Abba songs. Highbrow taste in literature. Questionable taste in music? Seriously, I don't even think I can tell you how. The good kind. No sparkles here. And now, off to catch some Abba on my Pandora ...

Candid Classics: A Risky Review
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011/02/risky-review.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Thursday, February 10, 2011. I already know that there are going to be at least two friends out there who disagree with my assessment of. I thought it was okay. Not great. Just okay. Dare I admit in this risky review that I felt the same about In-n-Out Burger? Of course, I finished reading it on the plane to San Francisco. Maybe heavy, philosophy-of-life type reading just wasn't the right pre-vacation material? Now I k...

Candid Classics: July 2011
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Back again. Okay, enough quoting bad Eminem songs. I didn't realize it had been almost two weeks since I've posted. In that span of time, I've tried, then tried again to muster some interest for. The Wings of the Dove. Sorry Henry James fans, just couldn't do it), and then I took a nice little break from the norms of the list and read. I'm considering cheating and watching the movie version of.

Candid Classics: August 2011
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. No And no and no and never and no. Has earned the dubious honor of becoming the first book I refused to finish because it was just too disgusting to continue. And if I had any idea what half of the slang words William Burroughs used actually meant, I would probably be even more icked out (incidentally, reading about Burroughs' accidental murder of his wife. Why does this book even exist? Shelfa...

Candid Classics: Only connect!
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011/01/only-connect.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Tuesday, January 25, 2011. So it would probably be a useful exercise for me to post more frequently here so I don't have to cram so many thoughts into one small space, but I get too involved in the story and forget to write. Oops. Even though dear old Eddie pulled the "I'm including characters to represent lofty ideas" ruse, I didn't find that as bothersome or obvious as I have in other works (*cough*. But she crossed ...

Candid Classics: The Original Debbie Downer
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011/05/original-debbie-downer.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Thursday, May 5, 2011. The Original Debbie Downer. Just when I think that I've read the most depressing, heart-wrenching, makes-you-want-to-hurl-yourself-out-a-window novel on the list, I somehow manage to move on to another that makes the first look like a cheery Disney cartoon by comparison. Not to be confused with a sad Disney cartoon. Still get choked up about Mufasa. Of course, they don't die. Lion King image found.

Candid Classics: All I Can Say Is...Read It!
http://niclassics.blogspot.com/2011/06/all-i-can-say-isread-it.html
A personal challenge to discover whether 100 novels are the greatest. or just grating. Monday, June 27, 2011. All I Can Say Is.Read It! Bonfire of the Vanities. Yesterday. I don't even know if there should be much more to this post than, "Read it." I liked it that much. I looked like this. Except that I didn't wear a suit or glasses, and I'm not a man. Almost entirely unlike this, actually. I have been told not to watch it though. Evidently not a good adaptation. Reading man photo found. Good vs. Evil.
