The Constant Contrarian: The Hangover Post
http://danaconstance.blogspot.com/2009/03/hangover-post.html
Mental lacunas from a Liberal Left-handed Libertarian living on the Left Coast. Saturday, March 7, 2009. Well, I had no intention on having a few drinks in the city on my birthday. I really. Had no intention at stopping by our local island legend tiki bar. In honor or my hangover, an ode to the 1980's, the time of my youth, and to the young ones today who think that the 80's must have been. T he coolest time ever to be alive,. I leave you this, a shot by shot remake of a classically bad 80's music video.
The Constant Contrarian: Dana? Really?
http://danaconstance.blogspot.com/2009/03/dana-really.html
Mental lacunas from a Liberal Left-handed Libertarian living on the Left Coast. Sunday, March 29, 2009. The boy's name Dana. D(a)-na , also used as girl's name Dana, is pronounced DAY-nah. Its meaning is "from Denmark". Also possibly a place name referring to an English river. Also variant of Daniel or Dane. Surname first used as a boy's name in the 19th century. A partial conversation I have on the phone at least once a week, every week:. Person A: May I speak to Miss Dana Constance, please? I really li...
The Constant Contrarian: Post Vacation
http://danaconstance.blogspot.com/2009/03/post-vacation.html
Mental lacunas from a Liberal Left-handed Libertarian living on the Left Coast. Monday, March 23, 2009. The absolute highs of a fantastic vacation can only be followed by the inevitable lows of post vacation life. Between the drama of a friend's marriage falling apart quite badly to an insane perking up of potential work opportunities for the firm, I've barely had time to shake the sand out of my sandals since we arrived back in Northern California. Quick snapshots from the holiday:. For MS Outlook or Ir...
The Constant Contrarian: Legos = Geek Love
http://danaconstance.blogspot.com/2009/03/legos-geek-love.html
Mental lacunas from a Liberal Left-handed Libertarian living on the Left Coast. Sunday, March 1, 2009. Legos = Geek Love. Last night I had the pleasure of hanging out at my friends Bryce. Kathy's apartment for a "B-Movie Night", in which a select group of people, carefully selected by Kathy, brought foodstuffs and in return were treated to a big screen treatment of the forgotten classic sci-fi 1958 flick, Queen of Outer Space. What made this meeting even better was one of the other guests at the party wa...

Done with Mirrors: The Toddlerhood of Cool
http://www.donewithmirrors.com/2009/02/toddlerhood-of-cool.html
Thursday, February 26, 2009. The Toddlerhood of Cool. When I told my 3-year-old son that we’d be going shoe shopping, his immediate response was:. 8220;I want Spiderman shoes! I’ll admit that, in the past, I’ve caved in to those big blue eyes staring up at me from the seat of the Target shopping cart and been coerced into buying Thomas the Tank Engine sneakers or Lightning McQueen sandals. . 8220;But he loooooves Thomas! Surely such a display of cuteness must justify my impulse purchase. 8221; . Arrivi...
Done with Mirrors: Emblazoned Behinds Need Not Apply
http://www.donewithmirrors.com/2009/03/emblazoned-behinds-need-not-apply.html
Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Emblazoned Behinds Need Not Apply. Amsterdam, to put it bluntly, is not like anyplace around here. . No pun intended on the word “blunt”, although there seemed to be more pot-friendly “coffee shops” than non-pot-vending “coffee houses.”) . The houses are tall and narrow with cartoonish tops that lean out over the street as if Dr. Seuss was the city planner. . There’s one thing, however, that Amsterdam does NOT have:. No fancy sport bikes here; everything clangs and clatters,...
Done with Mirrors: Alternative Easter Baskets
http://www.donewithmirrors.com/2009/04/alternative-easter-baskets.html
Sunday, April 12, 2009. When my father passed away, my mother asked if there was anything of his that I wanted to keep. . Anything at all. . She had her memories, she said, and anything I wanted I could take from the house and keep. . My dad was a simple man – not flashy, not wooed by material things. . He was highly educated, a medical professional, yet he wouldn’t use a computer. . And the pocket knife was a little thing, but a perpetual memory of childhood. . Any loose thread, envelope, piece of...
Done with Mirrors: Back and packing
http://www.donewithmirrors.com/2009/02/back-and-packing.html
Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Each year, Fall does fewer things to endear itself to me. In fact, I think it goes out of its way to make me hate it more and more. This year, my least favorite season leached out of its boundaries into August and well past December. Fall, I shake my fist at you and the grimness you bring. . Suffice it to say, I didn't feel much like "blogging", and now I need a vacation. Enter my cousin Gretchen and her plane tickets. 160;That made me. I have an aqua polka-dot suitcase, a...
Done with Mirrors: July 2008
http://www.donewithmirrors.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 7, 2008. This definitely isn't Disney World. My parents were masters of the Cheap Family Vacation. So expert were they, that my sister and I really thought there was no one else who was having as much fun as we were. Our vacations were always to Washington DC (stayed with family) or Quebec City (cheap Canadian dollar), and we always drove (never flew) but still - we fancied ourselves well-traveled. Except when it came to Disney World. If we could just go to Disney World like everyone else.

Done with Mirrors: May 2009
http://www.donewithmirrors.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 7, 2009. The first movie that I remember being terrified by was Jaws. Everyone was scared of sharks the summer Jaws came out – even the poster was eerie – but I was terrified at the molecular level. I blame my parents and the Kingston Drive-In. Of course, it doesn’t help that we live in Massachusetts, not far from where the movie was set, where I was sure there was a family of Great Whites swimming around looking to seek revenge on Chief Brody. Did you see Jaws 2? Hearing the music from the...

Mental lacunas from a Liberal Left-handed Libertarian living on the Left Coast. Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Dana's Guide to Moving, Part 1. Recently I made a comment on my Facebook status regarding helping a friend and his family, who had just bought a house, move. The responses to it on Facebook were so quick and furious that I thought the subject deserved a further look. Step 1. You Can Never Be Too Prepared.
