http://proudburb.blogspot.com/2010/01/giving-sandwich-getting-life.html
Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Giving a Sandwich, Getting a Life. My first brush with poverty was unexpected…. As we made our way through the sprawling city, our “hunger” got the best of. With a half-eaten sandwich, I had somehow purchased a piece of my soul that I hadn’t known was missing…. Posted by Jason Carson. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hanson Life in Texas. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Processing - part 2. Funny how the emotion of such a heavy experience can catch up to you at completely unexpected times. I'm doing my best to keep it together at work today and focus on the task at hand. So much to do! Posted by Jason Carson. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hanson Life in Texas. The Proud Suburbanite: Getting To Know You (Day 1 – Kampala)
http://proudburb.blogspot.com/2010/01/getting-to-know-you-day-1-kampala.html
Friday, January 29, 2010. Getting To Know You (Day 1 – Kampala). I love newness. Change, transition, new people, new cultures, new animals, new sites and sounds… That’s why I love traveling, particularly to places I’ve never been before. Monday morning, we woke early to a symphony of sounds – birds I’d never heard before, a call to a. Muslim prayer service, roosters that I swear forgot to set their clocks back in the fall because the sun isn’t even close to cresting over the horizon. Breakfast was fantas...

The Proud Suburbanite: Red Chilli Hostel
http://proudburb.blogspot.com/2010/01/red-chille-hostile.html
Monday, January 25, 2010. Red dirt, mosquito nets, great breakfasts, bohemian culture, goats, dogs, geckos in the showers and early. Wake up calls from a million exotic birds… That is the Red Chili. It was a good touch-down for the first couple of nights, in Kampala! It didn’t start out so hot, though… 25 hours of air travel and an exciting drive through the city in the middle of the night will do more than prepare a group of 30-. I’ll also remember Red Chilli as the place I first saw a Jack Fruit&...

Jason's Iraq Vacation: November 2006
http://jasonirrdeployment.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 19, 2006. Pursuant to Presidential Executive order of 14 Sep 2001, you are relieved (haha! From your present reserve status and ordered to report for a period of Active Duty . . . . not to exceed 545 days, unless extended or terminated by proper authority". Those words turned an ordinary day upside down and threw my quasi-normal life out the window. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 10th Mountain and IRR. Please sign my guestbook! Jason's Iraq Vacation: April 2007
http://jasonirrdeployment.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 22, 2007. No Time . . Who sings that song? Growing up, my mother loved to play the "radio game" with me; the game was simply scrolling the radio dial and identifying the artist singing the current song. I used to hate when The Guess Who came on, because I would ask about 30 times who it was and my mom just kept saying "Guess Who”? The wrestling show was good; I've never seen a live wrestling event and I was impressed at the athleticism of those guys. The final event was a 4-way tag team...

Jason's Iraq Vacation: February 2007
http://jasonirrdeployment.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 28, 2007. I had several fears when I learned that I would be going to Iraq with a reserve unit, based mostly upon misconceptions formed when I was on Active Duty. Two of the biggest fears I had were that we would be using old, 1980s style equipment and that the unit wouldn’t know its ass from a hole in the ground. The last two weeks have put these fears soundly to bed. My rifle is mounted with a laser sight/scope, and I was also issued body armor (which weighs about 50 lbs), camelback...

Jason's Iraq Vacation: January 2007
http://jasonirrdeployment.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 27, 2007. Our transportation from Ft. Jackson, SC to Ft. Lee, VA was a big bus. Since this was an Army trip, we had to wake up at 4:30 am so that we could be ready to leave by 7:30 am. Luckily, there were only 12 of us on the bus, so I was able to sleep for some of the trip. Links to this post. Just when things cant get any worse they go and do something like this, and totally make up for it! Ok, there's actually nothing they can do to make up for anything. However, I liked the line...
