Wednesday, October 10, 2012. We are on our way to Albuquerque to see Richard and Diane and the balloon festival; then on to Santa Fe on Saturday. We stopped in Phoenix today to get some furniture for Andy and Helen at IKEA. We are spending the night in Flagstaff. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. We had snow this morning in Great Falls and on the road to Missoula we ran into quite a bit. Missoula is lower in elevation and by the time we got there the snow was gone and sky was blue. Here are some pictures. When Lewis found the correct river he ended up at Great Falls. He saw five huge falls which they would have to portage. The banks were very steep and high and they had to build carts for the boats and supplies. The entire portage took almost a month.

Friday, October 5, 2012. First, Camp Disappointment was not named by L and C. The entrance to the Columbia River was found by a British sailor in 1792. He named it because he could not find a way through the harbor. We drove 3750 miles from Greenville to Cape Disappointment. It was worth every mile. Today we drove from Portland to the Cape and spent our time at the Interpretive Center. This Center summarized their entire trip from St. Louis to the Cape. As usual it was great. Thursday, October 4, 2012. We finished our trip through Idaho and have made it to Portland, Oregon about 100 miles from Cape Dissapointment. This map shows the general idea of where we have been the last 4 days. This is an example of what you see. In the eastern end the climate is characterized as high desert - not much vegatation. Sunday, September 30, 2012. We spent last night in Pierre, SD. Today we weaved our way up to Bismarck, ND. So far we have only spent about 10 percent of our time on the Interstates - the rest of the time on the back country roads. With out our GPS we would be in trouble. This is the Missouri at Pierre.
