Links to Carolina Destinations. Thursday, June 12, 2008. Hike, but Stay Hydrated! While taking a short (2.7 mile) walk one morning during the Texas-style heat wave that recently struck the southeast, I re-lived an important lesson I thought I learned during my first hike in South Carolina: when involved in outdoor activities, one must stay hydrated. I hope I never find out. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). IMAGES ON THIS BLOG. An Overview of the Carolinas. Hiking Trail-Reports (SC, WNC). Island Creek ...

Carolina Towns and Trails: Hanging Around Hanging Rock State Park
http://carolinatrails.blogspot.com/2014/10/hanging-around-hanging-rock-state-park.html
Links to Carolina Destinations. Wednesday, October 01, 2014. Hanging Around Hanging Rock State Park. We chose the easy way (my husband is seventy and has a heart and hip condition) taking the shortest walk up to Cascade Falls. It is stunning, refreshing, and the falls can be seen close up, even wading if you like, so we were not disappointed. (As always, use caution when walking near waterfalls. Ledges are steep and rocks can be slippery from unseen algae.). We stayed at the Singletree Gun and Plough.

Links to Carolina Destinations. Monday, March 23, 2015. Spring) Fashion Week in Charleston. This past weekend, we traveled to Charleston to introduce friends to the history, culture, and architecture of that great city. We had no idea it was Fashion Week and that white tents would cover the grounds of Marion Square. Nor did we remember later. Spring blooms put on their own show, capturing our attention. Carolina Towns and Trails: "But What Is There To Do Around Here?" A Carolinas Overview
http://carolinatrails.blogspot.com/2009/05/but-what-is-there-to-do-around-here.html
Links to Carolina Destinations. Thursday, May 14, 2009. But What Is There To Do Around Here? My husband and I gaped when the NC native asked the question I placed in the title of this post. Okay, so we have an unusually high interest in the Carolinas for plain ol' residents, but this gal lives on the edge of the Albemarle Sound, just an hour from Roanoke Island and the Outer Banks, and about an hour from Pettigrew State Park and Phelps Lake. How could she miss those things? There seriously is that much t...

Carolina Towns and Trails: An Interesting Day in Charleston
http://carolinatrails.blogspot.com/2014/09/an-interesting-day-in-charleston.html
Links to Carolina Destinations. Wednesday, September 24, 2014. An Interesting Day in Charleston. I'm taking a break from the Bryson City series for a guest post written by a local author and the post below on Charleston, which is of a more personal nature. This past weekend, we traveled to the lowcountry for a wedding, and while there, we spent a few hours in the historic district. Just to visit, of course, but I also needed a few photos for a novella I'm writing. I went to the Battery because I needed p...

Links to Carolina Destinations. Tuesday, March 10, 2009. A Few Guides to Help You Find Your Way. The temperature is warming. Violets and trout lilies have broken through the wintered ground and stretched their petals toward the sky. Hepatica and bloodroot are sure to follow. The sun warms your skin. The rays effervesce through you, waking your muscles, energizing them. You have to move. Get up. Inhale the mountains, the lowcountry, the banks along the sea and you know. It's time to get out. Post for an e...
