Muhammad Ali Mosque was a very Turkish style mosque, and was built near the older Mosque of Muhammad el-Nasir which has a very beautiful mihrab. Thursday, March 18, 2010. Happy St. Patrick's Day. It was more like Christmas for me. So after a surprisingly painless hour and a chest x-ray I walked out of the office a legal foreign resident in France! Incidentaly, it was a spectacularly beautiful day in Nantes so I took advantage of my good mood and spent the afternoon reading in the park and playing basketball in the sun. I figured I could afford a break from the job search after such a productive morning. But my day wasn't over yet. Jam of the week.

Friday, March 26, 2010. Learning from my Students. I had my first instance of a student crying in class today, and I almost cried myself. It was a pretty emotional moment and I'm not sure I handled it as well as I could have. I have been using an activity in class the last few weeks where students roll a die and move a marker around a game board. Each space on the board prompts them to share a little information about themselves. Most are fairly mundane (What is your favorite meal? What are you proud of?

Darius and all his roommates use electric razors so there was no foam to steal and he suggested I simply not shave and we could go get a hot foam shave at a barber shop at the end of the week. Tuesday, April 13, 2010. The island is about 40 km long and its cost is covered with caves, cliffs, arches and beautiful beaches. The water is crystal clear and already about 12 degrees C. The island is also full of pheasant, rabbits and huge hares. I came to expect to see a little herd of the three species in every field we passed. It took over 6 hours, and went over terrible roads through the mountains and along the coast. I got to see the sun rise over the Taurus Mountains with the Mediterranean as we got close to Alanya.
