Goals and Intentions | Mo-rockin' the Kasbah
https://morockinthekasbah.wordpress.com/goals-and-intentions
Mo-rockin' the Kasbah. A woman's year in Morocco. What’s she reading now? To see and experience another part of the world with a religion and culture that is often shown in American media as diametrically opposed to ‘all the things American.’ My goal is to know for myself this small, but intensely interesting and complex, piece of Arab North Africa. To spread cultural understanding and tolerance. To free myself from pre-conceived notions and judgments, and experience life in Morocco with an open curiosity.

Mo-rockin' the Kasbah. A woman's year in Morocco. What’s she reading now? July 26, 2012. Ashley E. Williams. Well, I’ve been home for officially one month! The time has gone by quickly, and now that a significant period has passed, I thought I’d reflect on what it’s been like to adjust back to life in the US. Trust me, there are a lot of things that make living in Morocco VERY different than living in the US! What do they eat? How are things similar and different? I hope that my blog has addressed things...

Mo-rockin' the Kasbah. A woman's year in Morocco. What’s she reading now? The One Week Mark. June 19, 2012. Ashley E. Williams. Two days ago I passed the “one week mark” until my departure date! At the same time, I’ve made some amazing Moroccan and American friends here, and gotten to see breathtaking landscapes, ancient kasbahs and palaces, and eat a lot of good food! Here are some of the things I will miss the most (in no specific order):. The cheapness of all goods and services! Cooking with the Haja.

Culture Shock! | Mo-rockin' the Kasbah

Mo-rockin' the Kasbah. A woman's year in Morocco. What’s she reading now? Some sweeping, not-necessarily-true generalizations about Morocco and Moroccans, in no specific order:. 1 There will never be enough electric plugs. And sometimes the one you DO have will explode. 2 When you overhear a conversation that seems like two people screaming at each other, they’re actually best friends discussing the price of lentils. 3 Moroccans will yell at each other one moment, and then make a joke the next. 12 Saying...

Mo-rockin' the Kasbah. A woman's year in Morocco. What’s she reading now? A Day with the Haja. June 15, 2012. Ashley E. Williams. Every two weeks or so, I spend a day with the Haja. So what’s a typical day with the Haja like? Well, first, one needs to have stamina–the day will be long and there may be exciting twists and turns! But in Morocco, all things come with patience. First, we had to make lunch. And my favorite dish was on the menu! By 5pm we’re ready to start preparing the dessert/s of the ...

Goodbyes | Mo-rockin' the Kasbah

Mo-rockin' the Kasbah. A woman's year in Morocco. What’s she reading now? June 22, 2012. Ashley E. Williams. It’s a hard thing to say goodbye. Things and people become familiar; you take them for granted. And then you realize that this may be the last time you see your friend, because of fate, circumstances, distance, or that way that people grow apart. The term “inch’allah” becomes more important than ever. Do I live in Africa? The unanimous answer is YES, and it’s messy. When I left America, I felt tha...
