davep's astronomy: 2009-01

http://davep-astro.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Getting back into observational astronomy. And some not-quite-observational-astronomy stuff too). It's that time again! The Society for Popular Astronomy. That their 2009 convention will be held at the Institute of Astronomy. Having been to the 2005 convention. And also the 2007 convention. Photographs of the day can be found here. And having really enjoyed them, I'm looking forward to this one — even more so given that it's IYA. Society for popular astronomy. Links to this post. View my complete profile.

Getting back into observational astronomy. And some not-quite-observational-astronomy stuff too). Probably not. Or perhaps it reminds you of one, but looks wrong? Chances are, if it does remind you of one, you might be thinking of Leo. That's a screenshot of the rather nifty interactive map of Leo. Using that application you can drag your point of view around and see how Leo would look from other points in space. Neat. If you like that you might also like his interactive map of the nearest 32 stars.

Getting back into observational astronomy. And some not-quite-observational-astronomy stuff too). Large Hadron Collider Up and Running. Well, that's it. The Large Hadron Collider is up and running. They've had two beams go all the way round (one clockwise, one anticlockwise). Thanks to the webcast I've been able to follow it pretty much all day ( twittering as I went. It's been absolutely fascinating. Like I said over here. Links to this post. AVM Microformat Generator for GNU emacs. Links to this post.

davep's astronomy: Finally Seen Comet Lulin

http://davep-astro.blogspot.com/2009/03/finally-seen-comet-lulin.html

Getting back into observational astronomy. And some not-quite-observational-astronomy stuff too). Finally Seen Comet Lulin. Last night, after waiting most of the week (and being defeated by cloud), I finally got to see comet Lulin. I too finally saw this last night. Cloud was in the way the rest of the week and when there was a gap in the cloud it either was too early for Leo to be up or the gaps were too small for me to find Leo as a starting point. davep's astronomy: Finally, an observation! (albeit a small one)

http://davep-astro.blogspot.com/2006/03/finally-observation-albeit-small-one.html

Getting back into observational astronomy. And some not-quite-observational-astronomy stuff too). Finally, an observation! Albeit a small one). After over a month without a single recorded observation (the last was on 2006-01-24. I've finally had the time and the weather to look at something and record it! Okay, in this case, it was a very brief look at the Sun. But at least it was an observation and I recorded something. File Under: Solar Observing. March 01, 2006 5:15 pm. March 01, 2006 11:45 pm. Astrowatcher: January 2007

http://astrowatcher.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 30, 2007. I also viewed the Moon. It was 11.71 days old. The best areas were around Aristarchus especially the Vallis Schroter which stood out like a bright twisting line. In the South the crater Shickard was lit nicely and Nasmyth/Phocylides gave an interesting effect of light and darkness. Posted by Albireo at 10:35 PM. Monday, January 29, 2007. Today being my birthday, I am comparing the positions of the solar system bodies today with those on the day I was born. RA Dec RA Dec. Obviou...

davep's weather: 2008-09

http://davep-wx.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

A geek and his personal weather station. Catching up, and a crash. Not much has been happening since my last post. Hence the reason I've not posted for some time. The base station of the WS3600 has crashed three times. The latest being today, so this still continues to be a problem. Also, the rain bucket still seems to be a little intermittent in the way it records rain (not that I've got it positioned in the best location). Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mumble: 2010-02

http://davep-mumbling.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Welcome to the Mumble, it gets worse here every day.". After having some fun with the 38mm super-wide lens. I decided, late on last year, to also get the fisheye lens. So far I've not had the chance to use it but I aim to correct that pretty soon. I mention this because, earlier this week, I took delivery of yet another extra for the Diana : a flash. Here's the Diana with the fisheye lens and the flash attached:. And, I imagine, my Holga 120GN. I'm looking forward to the chance to get to use the flash now.

Mumble: Vodafone push Android Donut to my HTC Magic

http://davep-mumbling.blogspot.com/2009/10/vodafone-push-android-donut-to-my-htc.html

Welcome to the Mumble, it gets worse here every day.". Vodafone push Android Donut to my HTC Magic. I first saw it was heading my way last week and, sure enough, last night, Vodafone pushed Android Donut onto my HTC Magic. I knew pretty much what to expect in terms of headline features, thanks to this video:. But there's a couple of other things that have changed that I really like. So far I've only run into one problem after the 1.6 install. It seems that Google Search by Voice. Not that it defines me, ...

Welcome to the Mumble, it gets worse here every day.". Seen by davep v1.2. Back in October last year. I used Blurb to produce a book. Based on the content of my photoblog. Having been very pleased with how it turned out I decided to do one every time the blog contained enough material. A couple of weeks back I had enough material to produce a second book. Here it is:. davep's weather: Stats and stuff

http://davep-wx.blogspot.com/2006/02/stats-and-stuff.html

A geek and his personal weather station. Yesterday evening I finally got round to creating a database for my weather data (using MySQL. And writing some code that injects the data into the database. While the site. Itself has never been, and probably won't ever be, driven off a database doing this does help me improve the content of the site. Having the data in a database that can be accessed with SQL. The first visible outcome of this is I've started a stats page. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Welcome to the Mumble, it gets worse here every day.". New site: www.seen-by.me.uk. Back in May this year I finally cracked and joined the ranks of people who use "smart phones". For a while I was seriously thinking about going for an Apple iPhone (especially after seeing Elizabeth Gordon. But, in the end, I was tempted by Android. And got myself a HTC Magic. One of the first things I did after I got it, following the lead of Elizabeth Gordon. Was to get a posterous. Seen by davep v1.1. Seen by davep .

http://davep-mumbling.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Welcome to the Mumble, it gets worse here every day.". New Toy: 38mm Super-Wide Lens for the Diana. Yesterday I took delivery of a new toy from Lomography. Actually, two new toys, both connected to my Diana. One of them was the 38mm super-wide lens:. The other thing I purchased, more on a whim than with an actual need, was the Canon EOS Diana lens adaptor. Now I can use either of the Diana lenses I've got on my Canon EOS 400D. Links to this post. Words strung together sometimes creating meaning, other times not. Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Saving the World - A work of fiction, Part I. You ever have those moments where you jolt awake, almost like it was a cattle prod stabbing into your lower back, pushing you, shocking you back into reality? Then, after being driven into the darkness that is reality, blinking through the sleep, you wonder where you are, what is happening and was it really a cattle prod that woke you?
