Dave's Allotment

Tuesday, July 29, 2008. July has been a busy month at the allotment. Mostly it has been constant weeding and a lot of picking as the vegetables gradually start to become ready. Above is how one of the plots currently looks, at the end of July, with the Runner Beans now producing and the Squash plants well and truly taking over and covering the soil. Plenty of Courgettes are also being picked. The Squash plants are growing rampantly. Above are the Butternuts. Below is a Festival. These are Turks Turban Sq...

Dave's Allotment: December 2005

http://www.davesallotment.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 21, 2005. Seed order for 2006. Here is my seed order for next year which I will shortly be placing with Marshalls. It comes to 50, which actually sounds quite a lot. But the amount of vegetables I'll grow from this will far outweight the cost of the seeds. Broad Beans (Aquadulce Claudia, Feligreen). Cabbage (Puma, Red Rookie). Carrots (Autumn King 2 Vita Longa, Sytan). Courgettes (Zucchini, Gold Rush, Clarita). Lettuce (Mixed Lollos, Salad Bowl). Parsnips (Tender and True).

Dave's Allotment: May Update

http://www.davesallotment.blogspot.com/2008/05/may-update.html

Thursday, May 29, 2008. Behind the runner beans is the large area which will be given over to all the different Squash and Pumpkins I'm growing this year. I've planted out about half of them so far, with the remainder either not big enough yet or having been resown after not germinating. The squash varieties are Festival, Sprinter (Butternut), Turks Turban, Futsu and Uchiki Kuri. The Potatoes are growing well and I've already given up trying to earth them up any more. Posted by Dave at 2:56 PM. My allotm...

Dave's Allotment: July 2006

http://www.davesallotment.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 31, 2006. On Saturday morning (6:15am! I planted out the Maris Piper 2nd cropping Potatoes. Apparently they should be ready in 8-10 weeks and can stay in the ground till Christmas. I used the same planting method as I did with the April planting. The Butternuts are doing extremely well and although the plants are much smaller than the other squash varietys, each one has anything up to about 8 butternuts on it. They're starting to grow to a fairly decent size as well (see below). For picking ...

Dave's Allotment: Asparagus and More Sowing

http://www.davesallotment.blogspot.com/2008/04/asparagus-and-more-sowing.html

Saturday, April 26, 2008. Asparagus and More Sowing. Today the first Asparagus of the year was ready for picking. There was 7 stalks to be picked today, but it's still an exciting moment. Within an hour and a half of picking them we were eating them. Fabulous. I sowed another 3 rows of Autumn King carrots today. They were then covered with a tunnel of Enviromesh to help prevent carrot root fly. Next to the patio you can see the peas are really coming through well. Posted by Dave at 7:51 PM.

Dave's Allotment: June 2006

http://www.davesallotment.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 28, 2006. Note to self: Start French Beans at home in seed trays next year. Never get enough of them from direct sowing. Also, when sowing Parsnips - sow LOTS of them, complete rows instead of spaced out. Germination has been non-existant so far this year, but hoping they might still make a late apperance. Posted by Dave at 3:29 PM. Tuesday, June 20, 2006. Over on the new plot I've almost entirely covered it with Squashes. Having dug over about two-thirds of the plot (with the remaind...

http://adventureswithveg.blogspot.com/2008/06/marigolds.html

The tales of a lad and his first vegetable patch. Saturday, 14 June 2008. Moving Marigolds and Weed Excavations. Despite the weather forecast was a nice day to go down the plot. Took some pics to start with. The runner beans coming along well and the spinach and lettuce have really recovered since the rabbit proof fencing went up! I finally cleared enough space to move the posts and re-tie the netting. Chris - Morbidly Obese Midget. Labels: Adventures with veg. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). If you ...
