One day, lad, all this will be yours . As soon as I saw the first trailer and realised that this film contained Anthony Hopkins as Odin, chewing up the Asgardian furniture, I knew they had chosen not. To follow the path laid down by J. Michael Straczynski’s reboot of Thor. And that was a concern! It turns out they have taken some of Straczynski's ideas, but they're mostly the earthbound ones. That's one bad hat, Loki . Asgard itself looks lovely, but there’s no obvious structure to it, it looks mor...

http://cellulord.blogspot.com/2012/07/john-carter-of-mars.html
JOHN CARTER (OF MARS). John Carter and his blue rays are now on Blu-Ray, although you'd be forgiven for not having noticed . I love John Carter. There, I’ve said it. Well, written it. I've waited over thirty-five years for the books I loved as a child to arrive on my preferred medium . The screen. And, damnit, it was worth the wait! If you don’t think you’ll make it … Go and watch Spider-Man. So, where was I? Oh yeah, pledging my troth to John Carter. Thing to do was shave off the bit of the title that m...

Charlie Kaufman has made his scripts available as pdfs for download . For free. All his work is here. For the eager script-writing student to pore over, including drafts and redrafts of the same scripts, in some cases. What an incredible insight into the head of the most audacious, literate and thoughtful script-writer of the last decade. The link, if you fancy a bit of cut'n'paste action is: http:/ www.beingcharliekaufman.com/index.php. This was a piece of drama written by Kaufman and The Coen Brothers ...

First thoughts. That’s what this piece will be. Half-formed, poorly-considered thoughts. So, I’m not intending to spoil the film, but by merely talking about it, I’m going to … So, if you have any ambition to watch this film … Don’t read on. Give yourself the chance to see the film …. So, I’ll assume you have seen it if you’re still here. So when is a trilogy not really a trilogy? I was reasonably indifferent to Batman Begins. Then The Dark Knight. My straw-poll survey made The Dark Knight. Was almost bo...

THE HOBBIT: VERY MUCH AS EXPECTED. Part One of Two:. Lord of the Rings. Is my favourite film (cos I think of it as one loooooong film) of the past 30 years. That, then, is the definition of a hard act to follow. With that in mind, I’ve watched the development of The Hobbit. But the delays continued … Studio and rights issues, union and political problems … A threat to shoot somewhere other than New Zealand (which we all now know is. Thankfully, it was all well worth the wait. For me, watching The Hobbit.

Film Producing in Wales. There’s a Certain Shabby Nobility in Failing All By Myself. Leave a comment ». This blog almost died for a number of reasons. In case there’s anybody still out there, I produced a short film last year for the Digital Shorts Wales scheme, which was funded by the (now defunct) UK Film Council. This short is called Bright Lights, and it’s now listed here on IMDb. I’ll leave you with a photo of Catrin Faulknall as Ali, and Ian Staples as Dad, taken by our DOP Steven Davies. ThereR...
