Daviess County, Indiana History. Just another WordPress.com weblog. December 30, 2008. John W Coats is a bit of a mystery. His grave is located at the Daviess County Farm. He was a Confederate Soldier…a member of the 19th Georgia Infantry and a Prisoner of War. According to research, he was captured and supposedly killed at James Island in 1861. One of the best known historical facts about Daviess County is that it was the home to the 1938 GOP cornfield conference. On August 26, 1938, Homer Capehart hosted the gathering at his farm in Daviess County, near Washington. Attended by 50,000 or so people, it was regarded as the revival of the Republican party in Indiana. Response to “Homer Capehart and a cornfield”.

Smyrna Tennessee History and Stuff. Historic facts and trivia about Smyrna, Tennessee. January 15, 2012. The Ward family apparently arrived in the Smyrna area in the early 1800s. Their land would have been in the vicinity of the Nissan plant, as evidenced by the number of Ward cemeteries in this area. It also appears that Samuel was the son of Matthew McClanahan, the 2nd sheriff of Rutherford County. Matthew’s burial place is unknown. Is it possible that Matthew is also buried here? On October 10, 2012.

Smyrna Church of Christ and the Town of Smyrna are working together to preserve the original Smyrna Primary School. The school was converted to a residence in the early 1900’s and is currently owned by the church. In my previous post on the Ward Cemetery, I mentioned that Matthew McClanahan was thought to have been the 2nd sheriff of Rutherford County. After a more thorough review of the records, I can find no evidence that Matthew ever served in that capacity. This year The Davies School of Dance (DSD) celebrate 21 years as a traditional dance school teaching Royal Academy of Dance Classical Ballet, Tap, Modern and Musical Theatre. Teaching is of a very high standard and pupils are prepared for careers in dance should they wish to embark on dreams of being on stage. Welcome to the Davies School of Dancing. The Davies School of Dancing offers classes in Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre Dance. Recognised examinations can be taken in all disciplines. As well as exams there are opportunities for all students to take part in summer schools and workshops throughout the year. Dates for these and any shows will be shown on the timetable.
