Thursday, August 8, 2013. Yesterday I was fortunate enough to participate in a world wide conference with 25,000 attendees from 170 countries. Saturday, April 19, 2014. Learning About the Middle Ages. As a read aloud we read and discuss The Whipping Boy, by Sid Fleishman. This Newbery Award winning book is historical fiction. Monday, September 2, 2013. Setting Up Our Reading Notebooks. We've been in school for just a week and a half now, and the class has had an opportunity to become familiar with our classroom library. Our next step was to set up our Reading Notebooks. I always use a reading notebook, but this year I am following Donalynn Miller's suggestions in The Book Whisperer. A tally List for the genres. Students tally the books they have read as they go, and keep track of the genre requirements. 5 - Realistic fiction.
