Sections 85(1), (2) and (4) of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 came into force on 12 March 2015, providing that all fines and maximum fines in Magistrates’ Courts of 5,000 or more are now unlimited, meaning that magistrates are now able to impose higher fines.
