Like fragile bark on a young tree. Blood courses down me on the inside. Like paint poured into a glass bottle. No one catches it. I cannot stop it. Everything I do is tainted. The bandage not a bandage. Why did you do it, Mama? Why did you say it? Your words, so dismissive. I’m sorry, okay? I was only ten.

All I wanted to do was to create something from plastic bottles that would raise awareness about bottled water, it’s impact on the environment and generate some buzz about the new Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Instead, I got lessons in persistence and patience, as well as a new philosophy toward bottled water. Right off, my intern Taylor, hooked me up with the UO’s Climate Justice League. We all agreed to a project and on Sunday, January 9, volunteers from Take Back the Tap.
