Rolls-Royce Power Systems is to supply a total of 48 MTU Friedrichshafen 12V 4000 M53B diesel gensets, worth approximately EUR90 million for 12 Duke-class Type 23 frigates used by the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy (RN). The vessels were built between 1985 and 2002 and each will be equipped with four new diesel gensets, as part of the Royal Navy’s vessel life extension program. BAE Systems announced it has awarded the first equipment manufacturing contracts for the Type 26 GCS frigates, worth in excess of 170 million. BAE Systems has also confirmed a subcontract for the Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) system, which collates and analyses environmental information to support operations.
