Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : Navaratri, Ram Navami and a happy New Year!

http://www.delhitales.com/2016/04/navaratri.html

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Thursday, 14 April 2016. Navaratri, Ram Navami and a happy New Year! Oh I wish I had studied more at senior school! Well I did, but, when it came to my O Levels and completing my Religious Studies, which were on various different religions, Hinduism and all the many, many gods and goddesses being a major portion, there were just too many to remember and I failed miserably (in fact it was the one O Level my mother actually got! If I've understood correctly it's als...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Monday, 23 January 2017. There sits the 1914-18 war memorial towards the back of the cemetery. 153 casualties from this war were moved from the Meerut Cantonment Cemetery as the graves weren't being maintained, but according to the War Graves Commission they have recently been reinstated. In 1966 99 World War I graves were moved from Nicholson Cemetery, near Kashmir Gate in Delhi, to a final resting place, where they lie in 2 neat rows. Monday, 16 January 2017.

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : A walk through Hauz Khas and its tombs

http://www.delhitales.com/2016/05/a-walk-through-hauz-khas-and-its-tombs.html

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Thursday, 5 May 2016. A walk through Hauz Khas and its tombs. We also try to avoid the furniture stores but again have failed there too, but we are being strong and resisting the urge to 'just take a quick look'. for the moment at least. All the same it makes a nice short stroll through the woods to HK Village and the Deer Park. In the corner is the tomb of Firoz Shah Tughlaq. The madrasa or Islamic school. The mosque sits at one end of the L shaped complex. Resea...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : Haunted House... Bhuli Bhatiyari Mandal

http://www.delhitales.com/2016/06/haunted-house-bhuli-bhatiyari-mandal.html

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Wednesday, 15 June 2016. Haunted House. Bhuli Bhatiyari Mandal. Apparently Bhuli (or Bhooli) Bhatiyari Mandal is considered one of the most haunted places in Delhi, if you believe in such things. I first became aware of this hidden piece of Delhis history purely by accident, whilst looking for another building which I mistyped and this popped up.my curiosity was piqued! Surrounding the walls are a few small, dark rooms. Remains of more substantial buildings wi...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Friday, 23 September 2016. Vishwa Shanti Stupa, otherwise known as the World Peace Pagoda of Delhi, shanti meaning peace. This substantial stupa sits within Indraprastha Park not far from the Yamuna river in the NE East of Delhi. You will find 6 stupas in all throughout India and surprisingly 3 in the UK (I didn't know about this) They are situated in Birmingham, Battersea Park, London and Milton Keynes! Where's the Next Adventure?: HMS Belfast

http://wheresthenextadventure.blogspot.com/2016/11/hms-belfast.html

Where's the Next Adventure? UK - Singapore - UK, currently based in Edinburgh. Expat Adventures in Singapore. Wednesday, 30 November 2016. In-between all the up-to-date posts I'm sharing I'm still playing catch up on some that are hideously outstanding, this one about our visit to HMS Belfast being just one of those! Despite it being a swift eating decision I certainly wasn't disappointed with my burger, it hit the spot and satisfied my hunger for the afternoon. Ship's cat, a model obviously. Having expl...

Where's the Next Adventure?: The Scott Monument, Edinburgh

http://wheresthenextadventure.blogspot.com/2016/12/the-scott-monument-edinburgh.html

Where's the Next Adventure? UK - Singapore - UK, currently based in Edinburgh. Expat Adventures in Singapore. Thursday, 8 December 2016. The Scott Monument, Edinburgh. The top of the monument. Well worth a visit too). The monument itself features many characters from Scott's novels sculpted by a variety of Scottish sculptors. The monument was completed and inaugurated in 1846, as I mentioned sadly after the death of its designer. We were able to spot a landmark in this view just along from where we live.

http://wheresthenextadventure.blogspot.com/2016/10/six-months-on.html

Where's the Next Adventure? UK - Singapore - UK, currently based in Edinburgh. Expat Adventures in Singapore. Wednesday, 5 October 2016. We've been back in the UK now about six months and after sharing my thoughts about being back after a month. View over my new home. There are also a number of other good things too that have definitely helped and even though there are still some bad points I've noticed that these do tend to be balanced by the good. Do I still miss Singapore? What did you do in Singapore?

Where's the Next Adventure?: It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

Where's the Next Adventure? UK - Singapore - UK, currently based in Edinburgh. Expat Adventures in Singapore. Wednesday, 23 November 2016. It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas. As switch ons go it was certainly a little more impressive than anything I've encountered before, with fireworks, carols and of course the lights. It was quite lovely to catch it all at just the right time and certainly got me feeling just a little bit festive. Taken just a little earlier in the afternoon. Take a look here.

Expat Adventures in Singapore. Where's the Next Adventure? Gardens by the Bay Celebrates SG50 in Style! Last Friday evening saw us head to Gardens by the Bay to enjoy the opening night of their latest floral display in the Flower Dome, 'From Tales to Legends: Discover Singapore Stories'. This is a celebration of some of the many tales and legends of Singapore and is just one part of the Gardens celebrations for Singapore's 50th anniversary of independence. The tale of Sang Nila Utama. It's an excellent s...

Expat Adventures in Singapore: Wandering Around Hanoi

http://www.expatadventuresinsingapore.com/2015/06/wandering-around-hanoi.html

Expat Adventures in Singapore. Where's the Next Adventure? After an interesting first day exploring Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum etc. And in-between stuffing our faces full of good food. We still had plenty of exploring of the city to do before moving on to our next stop, Halong Bay. We were given a programme for the evening and got to enjoy fourteen performances that had been selected from a repertoire of 400! Displays of just a few of the puppets in the entrance to the water puppet theatre. As I said from t...

Where's the Next Adventure? UK - Singapore - UK, currently based in Edinburgh. Expat Adventures in Singapore. Tuesday, 31 May 2016. What do you do on a dull, cold late May Bank Holiday Monday in the UK? Go to a duck race in the local village of course! As I've said in my previous post about Loose village. I was born and brought up within a stone's throw of it but although I knew about the annual duck race I had never been. Until this week that is. To the UK or if you've read any of my Singapore blog.

Where's the Next Adventure? UK - Singapore - UK, currently based in Edinburgh. Expat Adventures in Singapore. Saturday, 21 May 2016. Loose Village, Kent. So all of these things combined make it a nice place to be, particularly when the sun is shining. Whilst we sat in the village pub's beer garden I loved the look of these clouds. A snake was not something I was expecting to see in the village stream! Fortunately where my parents live means we can do some nice circular walks of various lengths and the pu...

Where's the Next Adventure?: Cathedrals, Champagne and a Touch of Christmas

http://wheresthenextadventure.blogspot.com/2016/12/cathedrals-champagne-and-touch-of.html

Where's the Next Adventure? UK - Singapore - UK, currently based in Edinburgh. Expat Adventures in Singapore. Friday, 23 December 2016. Cathedrals, Champagne and a Touch of Christmas. Detail from the outside of Reims cathedral. Stunning stained glass rose windows in the cathedral and more intricate detailing on the walls. Christmas decorations in the city centre. Sunset in the city. I liked how these Christmas trees were suspended above the canal. Location: Reims, France. What did you do in Singapore?
