Depicting Things

GODS CREATIONS, MY EXPRESSIONS - DRAWINGS and PAINTINGS IN 2015. Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Viviane's Roses, gouache on Arches 300 c/p, 2.5" x 3.5". I haven't painted a lot recently, having become involved in a family genealogy project that has sapped all my time, but I recently realized that I needed to do something that wouldn't involve mousing around. The ache between my shoulder blades often reminds me that I've become too compulsive! Saturday, April 11, 2015. Do you ever forget about a painting?

Depicting Things: In the Mix

http://www.depictingthings.blogspot.com/2015/03/in-mix.html

GODS CREATIONS, MY EXPRESSIONS in drawing and painting. Monday, March 9, 2015. In the Mix, gouache, 2.5" x 3.5" on Arches 300 c/p. Needless to say, I want some color and vibrancy in my life right now! If you're like me, your eyes long to see certain kinds of colors. When you finally see them, there's a satisfaction that's quite physical. Perhaps you understand- I hope so. It's hard to explain. It's 34° right now! Do you know what that means, after two months of temperatures well below freezing? I've lear...

GODS CREATIONS, MY EXPRESSIONS in drawing and painting. Friday, January 23, 2015. Hamster, Moleskine sketchpad 3.5" x 5.5". I like this little hamster's jaunty air. He seems like he's about to say something witty. He's part of the collection of animals I'm slowly sending to my granddaughter. I find these furry or fuzzy critters are fun to draw. The hair overlapping his ears. I think it really worked to give him softness. Tuesday, January 20, 2015. I also used Doug Dawson's approach to the color of snow, ...

Depicting Things: Stained Glass Tree

http://www.depictingthings.blogspot.com/2015/02/stained-glass-tree.html

GODS CREATIONS, MY EXPRESSIONS in drawing and painting. Monday, February 16, 2015. Stained Glass Tree, gouache, 2.5" x 3.5" on Arches 300 lb. c/p. A little bit of departure from realism, though factually based, of course. I simply decided that the distant trees could be massed together to form a slightly darker shape, focusing on the interstices of the tree and the light of the sunset behind as my subject matter. I used a touch of fine point black Sharpie in the tree trunks. View my complete profile.

Landscape Painting in Pastels: CHAPTER FIVE -- AERIAL PERSPECTIVE

http://landscapesinpastel.blogspot.com/2010/03/chapter-five-aerial-perspective.html

Friday, February 17, 2012. CHAPTER FIVE - AERIAL PERSPECTIVE. In the following chapters you’ll find information on how to paint various topics such as mountains, trees and skies. Included, where appropriate, you’ll find “The Rules” to quickly remind you of those things that generally work. Consider them rules of thumb to paint by, but remember, in some cases, rules can become guidelines that don’t always require hard and fast adherence. CHAPTER FIVE - AERIAL PERSPECTIVE. Landscape Painting in Pastels: INTRODUCTION

http://landscapesinpastel.blogspot.com/2010/02/introduction.html

Wednesday, February 22, 2012. I’ve been blessed to be able to teach so many talented and willing students over the years. I find most of them have come into the classroom looking for information, inspiration, encouragement and companionship. Making art can be solitary and sometimes lonely, especially when we become too self-involved. Art is communication, at essence, so I believe the path should be a mutual experience, as well. Landscape Painting in Pastels: CHAPTER TWELVE – FOLIAGE

Friday, February 10, 2012. CHAPTER TWELVE – FOLIAGE. With thanks to The Pastel Journal. Where this was originally published.). At Rest, 12" x 9". The drape of leaves, like the folds of fabric covering a model, is dependent on the form beneath. Unlike the hard skeleton, foliage is gentle and flowing, wrapped over and around the structure of a tree. We’ve analyzed the trunk and branches of the tree and now we need to spend time looking at the leaves clothing the tree in softness and color. Negative shapes ...

Landscape Painting in Pastels: CHAPTER EIGHT– CLOUDS

http://landscapesinpastel.blogspot.com/2010/03/chapter-eight-clouds.html

Tuesday, February 14, 2012. CHAPTER EIGHT– CLOUDS. What could be more beautiful than the elegance of delicate clouds decorating the soaring blue sky? However, too often clouds become a muddy mess or heavy, leaden blobs. Here are a few suggestions to help you find the structure of clouds and keep them light and airy, clean and bright. Coronado Sky, 9x12". Have you ever noticed that clouds are never still? Scent of Rain, 18x24". The edge of a cloud in a clear blue sky can be etched with brilliant clarity o...

Mostly Miniatures in Opaque Watercolor (Gouache). Paint, Paper, Brushes. Step by Step Demo. Wednesday, September 4, 2013. We've had such beautiful anvil clouds forming around here lately that I just had to paint this one. The photograph was taken by my friend Geraldine Garcia, and I stayed fairly true to the cloud but changed the foreground design. I wanted the bushes to form an oval to carry your eye around and back to that spectacular cloud! Painted in gouache on Bristol vellum, 2.5" x 3.5". FOR SALE* ...
