De Quincey In Everton. Friday, 19 November 2010. The above is a print of W. G. Herdman. S view of Everton from Great Mersey Street in 1833, which gives an indication of the attraction of Everton for middle and upper classes in the early part of the 19th Century as a holiday destination. This attractiveness was the reason for De Quincey's family to holiday there in 1801. The Stranger in Liverpool, 2nd ed., 1810, pp. 185, 186. William Moss Liverpool Guide 1801, p. 80,. De Quincey In Everton: February 2011

http://dequinceyineverton.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

De Quincey In Everton. Thursday, 10 February 2011. De Quincey notes a considerable number of texts in his Everton diary. Which formed his reading during the summer of 1803. Many of these texts are now obscure and unknown to many including myself. Therefore, it is my intention to provide information on the texts referred to by De Quincey to get a better understanding of his reading at this point in his life. He lists John Moore's Mooriana. Here are 2 extracts from Mooriana. Click on images to enlarge).

De Quincey In Everton: January 2011

http://dequinceyineverton.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

De Quincey In Everton. Monday, 31 January 2011. Lascar House, Waterloo Road/Vandries Street Liverpool. Our first De Quincey dérive. On Saturday 22nd January took us past the above building which stands on the former North Shore - the "resounding shore". Which was the destination of a walk by De Quincey on the Sunday May 1st 1803 and the inspiration for our dérive. The Bedlam Asbestos Company may have been using the building for a considerable time as I came across this snippet from the Rubber Journal.

Malcolm Lowry @ The 19th Hole. Wednesday, 24 November 2010. At The Egremont Ferry Pub. I have only got to step out of my front door to be in the footsteps of Malc as I live in the place of his birth - New Brighton.
