Kilimanjaro - Lessons from China. Last November Elaine and I spent a week trekking along the Great Wall of China. It was the first trekking that I had done since my teens and it set off a spark inside me that has motivated me to seek out more challenges in the future. China was special in so many ways. Why? It was the sense of adventure, experiencing something new.it filled me with life! Little wonder than less than 6 months on I’m writing a blog about my next challenge.Kilimanjaro!

Preparations – Equipment — TEAM KILIMANJARO

In preparation for the trip I’ve been researching what I need to pack for this trek. I’ll have 2 bags, a day sack and a kit-bag. The kit-bag is carried by a porter each day and must be no more than 15kilos. This is what I have so far. As you can see my day sack might be quite heavy! Mobile phone and charger. GPS Watch with Altitude and Temperature. Spare batteries and charger. Small first aid kit. Painkillers, cold and flu medicine. Immodium and rehydration salts. Sun screen and lip balm.

Team Kilimanjaro - Press Launch. On Thursday 15th September Team Kilimanjaro held a press launch at SkyFall in Hove. A big thank you to the owners for allowing us use of the venue along with canapes and drinks. Local photographer, Graham Franks was on hand to take a few artistic snaps for circulation to the local press. The press launch was attended by many of the Kilimanjaro team and we were accompanied by representatives from two of our nominated charities, Chestnut Tree House and St Wilfrid's Hospice.

The Girls are putting the Boys to shame. Elaine, Caroline and Sally have wasted no time and are well into a training regime in preparation for Kili. Straight from school drop-off and stocked up with mini bottles of Prosecco, smoked salmon blinis and the latest copy of 'Country Living', they have marched upon The Downs, typically covering 6-8 miles. Here are some photos of Caroline, a prominent advocate for a pre-hike stretch; Elaine, a fair-weather walker and Sally, an ex-TA trekker.

Preparations – Practice Hikes — TEAM KILIMANJARO
http://www.climb-mtkilimanjaro.com/home/2016/4/5/preparations-practice-hikes
I’m told that trekking Kilimanjaro it as much about mental strength as it is physical strength. Well I’m not taking any chances. We have pencilled in a number of dates between now and October when many of the team can get together for training hikes across the South East. The altitude might not be quite the same, nor the conditions, but it will give the team time to get to know each other and put any new gear through its paces. Dates of our hikes will be posted on here feel free to join us.
