Stanspoker Blog: June 2006
http://stanspokerblog.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 30, 2006. TE and another Swedish dealer, sadly TE is not the pretty one. Owner to Trainer: All you do is give me bad news about my horse. Can't you think of anything positive to say? Trainer to owner: Well, you've got partners. William Murray, the wrong horse. This quote was lifted from Niall Quinn's autobiography, it did tickle me. The 90 minute result was a cracker for work, the final outcome a small disaster. Have you seen the Caffreys advert 'there's a storm brewing'? Also had the pleasu...

Secrets of the Amateurs. Monday, November 28, 2011. Allow me to explain. It's not that they are great in a lot of cases, they're just not making very many obvious fishy mistakes. Watching people play 20bb stacks more or less correctly is dull as fuck! Posted by Andy Ward @ 3:47 PM. Good to have you back! Looking forward to reading those forthcoming posts. Secrets of the Amateurs. Saturday, March 26, 2005. Jack Of All Trades. Posted by Andy Ward @ 9:27 AM 0 comments. Thursday, March 24, 2005. Slave To The Grind. Why is everyone getting the cake in Sit and Goes except me? Usually it is. So I can play the way I want to. The same applies in winner-take-all single tables, in fact even more so. Secrets of the Amateurs: January 2005
http://secretsoftheamateurs.blogspot.com/2005_01_01_archive.html
Secrets of the Amateurs. Monday, January 24, 2005. So what have we learned lately? As I note below, in 5 out of my last 6 live tournaments (which comprise 5 100 freezouts and a 250 rebuy, all in Luton) I have hit the rail holding some filthy cards. We can break these moves down into three categories :. Posted by Andy Ward @ 9:04 PM 1 comments. Saturday, January 22, 2005. We Don't Need No Stinkin Hands! Oh well, gotta get up to get down! Secrets of the Amateurs: October 2004
http://secretsoftheamateurs.blogspot.com/2004_10_01_archive.html
Secrets of the Amateurs. Saturday, October 23, 2004. Thinly Disguised Bad Beat Story. First of all, sorry that the "Secrets of the Amateurs" have remained secret for the last 10 days. I have been very active in the "talking crap" diary instead, and putting the secrets into practice in Party Poker Sit and Goes. Now I have stepped up a level, to $50, and am concentrating on the best games, I'm suddenly making some money. Who'd have thunk it? Nuts to this, I've seen enough fishy play so far tonight that I'm...

Secrets of the Amateurs: June 2005
http://secretsoftheamateurs.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
Secrets of the Amateurs. Monday, June 27, 2005. Meanwhile, just as I am mulling that over, Harrington On Hold-Em 2 arrived this morning, at work in a Fedex package with EXTREMELY URGENT printed on it. Damn right. I need to be one of the first to read this book! I intend to savour it like a fine meal or cognac rather than guzzle it down, but the first section is already well worth the admission fee. Dan really is the Man! Posted by Andy Ward @ 7:33 PM 6 comments. Wednesday, June 15, 2005. 2) Save 150 a mo...

Secrets of the Amateurs: Poker Is To Cricket As ...
http://secretsoftheamateurs.blogspot.com/2011/05/poker-is-to-cricket-as.html
Secrets of the Amateurs. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Poker Is To Cricket As . I'm still here, chugging along. I played a couple of SCOOPs and FTOPS but nothing too serious and am still, in the words of Homer Simpson, trying to "dig up, stupid". I did have an interesting conversation though that I thought might bear repeating. If you haven't been following me on Twitter. Coach : When you started playing poker, it was for small money, right? Me : That's it, yes. Coach : So having a big stack or a small stack is...

Secrets of the Amateurs: Late Night Poker (Finish)
http://secretsoftheamateurs.blogspot.com/2011/12/late-night-poker-finish.html
Secrets of the Amateurs. Tuesday, December 06, 2011. Late Night Poker (Finish). I caught up with the Late Night Poker final today - look away now if you haven't seen it! In the event, it turned into a rather disappointing crapshoot. The combination of an 8-handed final and only 5 being paid anything at all was always going to tend to produce cagey play in the middle, which leads to blind pressure at the end if the structure isn't set very carefully, and that's what happened. Secrets of the Amateurs: After The Goldrush
http://secretsoftheamateurs.blogspot.com/2013/12/after-goldrush.html
Secrets of the Amateurs. Monday, December 02, 2013. I picked up a moderately interesting (Kindle) book on Amazon the other day : Poker Is Dead. The author makes a brief and fairly one-sided case for online poker being effectively unbeatable in 2013. Nonetheless, he might have a point, at least to an extent. Is an unimpressive ROI of around -15%. The sample size is only around 1300 tournaments but it's all I have. More to the point, stats like EV bb/100 hands are equally uninspiring.
