Traces of My Travels: October 2014
http://orientalbutterfly.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, 5 October 2014. São Paulo Series - Instituto Cultural Tomie Ohtake. The art tour of São Paulo includes the Instituto Cultural Tomie Ohtake, a building named after a Japanese naturalized Brazilian artist. The taxi driver knew the place; I did not have to present him with the piece of paper on which the address was written. This is quite unusual because most taxi drivers do not quite grasp my pronunciation of various places in Portuguese and have to rely on the written word. Street art is a phenome...

Traces of My Travels: COPA and transiting at Panama
http://orientalbutterfly.blogspot.com/2015/07/copa-and-transiting-at-panama.html
Monday, 27 July 2015. COPA and transiting at Panama. The Tocumen International Airport at Panama was bustling with people, with departure gates packed very closely to each other. The airport is the home of COPA and every corner you turn, you will find COPA crew everywhere. They are a young bunch. According to their literature, COPA have a fleet of over 85 airplanes, mostly Boeing 737s. A COPA airplane being serviced at Tocumen Airport. A corner of the Tocumen Airport, Panama. Aerial view of Panama City.

Traces of My Travels: November 2014
http://orientalbutterfly.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 16 November 2014. São Paulo Series - Liberdade. Liberdade, according to some posts on TripAdvisor, is "Little Tokyo". This kind of gross exaggeration bordering on ignorance makes me lose confidence in the content of this web site. Liberdade is dirty, unkempt, full of tacky shops - nothing like Tokyo at all. A Torii gate at Liberdade. Local version of bonsai. There were a number of Chinese provision stores / supermarkets and there, I saw vegetables that I am familiar with - they were the staple di...

Traces of My Travels: August 2014
http://orientalbutterfly.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 25 August 2014. São Paulo Series - A rich mix of architecture styles, Part 1. São Paulo has a rich mix of architecture ranging in period and style. It is a city with diverse and unusual juxtapositions: a mixture of modernist architecture, mirrored skyscrapers and historical buildings. The modern buildings - glass towers of different hues mingle with impressive granite and marble-faced structures and metal-sheathed ones. Caetano de Campos School, Republica Square, (Praça da República). The largest...

Monday, 27 July 2015. Santiago, Chile Series - First Impressions. I felt relieved and liberated to be able to walk the streets again after Guatemala. Santiago Chile looks European, with clean streets and paved walkways. As it was a Sunday, all the local shops were closed. The concierge told me that a shopping mall nearby was opened, so I headed that way. I had a spring in my step when I walked along the Avenue Provedencia towards the city centre on a slightly overcast Sunday afternoon. A corner of the To...

Traces of My Travels: June 2015
http://orientalbutterfly.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Monday, 8 June 2015. It is nice to be home for the summer. The wisteria and irises - my favourites - are in full bloom and the temperature, in the low 20s, is just right for a day's outing. Kingham's at Shere, Surrey. Sardines without the chive cream. Roast pork with rosti and cubed apples. Treacle tart with pineapple dipped in ginger sauce. And here's a haiku to close:. Sun drenched summer blooms. Cloudscape on the canvas sky. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Traces of My Travels: July 2014

Wednesday, 16 July 2014. On home soil - Claremont Landscape Garden, Esher, Surrey. It is nice to be home, and to enjoy a glorious summer with my loved one. The man made lake, a centre piece of the garden. The man made amphitheater overlooking the lake. Walkway made from tree trunks. When I saw these levelled pieces of tree trunks, I could not help myself stepping onto them and walking along them. Since seeing an osteopath who has been treating me for imbalance due to the tightening up of my thorax, I...

Traces of My Travels: January 2015
http://orientalbutterfly.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, 26 January 2015. The White Stuff - Stockholm. It was almost a shock to see so much snow at Stockholm. As soon as the snow turned into ice, the pavements were almost like ice rinks, making movement treacherous. The locals are so used to the snow, none of them seemed too concerned. Cars were driven at low speed, and drivers generally stopped to allow pedestrians to pass first. Snow scene at Kista, Stockholm. Kista Science Park, Stockholm. Friday, 2 January 2015. Glow of everlasting fire.
